A new poll suggests Republicans have the biggest advantage in a midterm year in two decades.
The Pew/USA Today poll released Monday found 47 percent of registered voters support the Republican candidate in their district or lean Republican. By contrast, 43 percent favor the Democratic candidate or lean Democratic.
Democrats have lost ground on the generic ballot in recent months. Last October, Democrats held a 6-percentage-point lead of 49 to 43 percent. Regardless, they usually need a double-digit lead in order to pick up seats.
President Obama’s approval rating is now lower than at the same point during the 2010 campaign, Pew noted. The GOP later won the majority in the House that November.
While 44 percent approve of Obama’s job as president, half of the public disapproves, the poll found.
Just over half say Obama won’t affect their vote this November. Just over a quarter, meanwhile, see their vote as being against the president rather than the 16 percent who say it will be for Obama.
Less than a third of Democrats see their vote as being for Obama, but 46 percent of Republicans see their vote as being against him.
Nearly two-thirds say they want to see the next president offer different policies and programs than the Obama administration. Less than a third want Obama’s successor to offer a similar agenda.
Despite the GOP’s edge on the generic ballot, only 23 percent approve Republicans’ jobs in Congress and 32 percent approve of Democrats’ jobs.
More people, 43 percent, say GOP policies would do more for the economy, compared to 39 percent who say Obama’s policies are more effective.
The poll was based on 1,501 adults surveyed from April 23 to 27. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
All this hype and we probably still will fall short on getting the senate back. I think there’s only a 60% chance. Without the Senate we face at least 2.5 more years of this misery.
Way too early to celebrate.
Our Senate candidates haven’t even weighed in on their definition of “rape” yet.
The GOP is the master at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Let’s not get “cocky”.
And let’s continue working to reduce the number of dead voters.
Shouldn’t every patriot state, frequently and publicly, that
“Our Constitution does not give dead people the “right” to vote!”
It’s hard to put a number on expected House gains but winning 290 is out of the question, it would only be possible if we ideally drew all the lines in every state. I’d be pleased to net 20 seats.
With the Senate, there are 10 seats I think we have an even chance at picking up or better. That would still leave us 12 short of 67, with only 11 rat seats remaining. So you’d need to win EVERY Senate race and get Angus King to switch.
If they bring up amnesty - the GOP could lose seats
I remember when the grifter took office, they fired attorney’s general, all of them, all 50 states.
Every state has a federal attorney general to handle federal cases in the state. I am pretty sure all were fired by the Clintons. I thought it was a pretty big deal at the time or I would not have remembered it.
As I recall it was even before they fired all the WH travel office employees.
Form a story at the time—googled it—I had the number wrong it was 93 not fifty.
Attorney General Janet Reno fired all 93 U.S. attorneys, a very unusual practice. Republicans charged the Clintonites made the move to take U.S. Attorney Jay Stephens off the House Post Office investigation of Ways and Means Chairman Dan Rostenkowski. The network response: ABC and CBS never mentioned it. CNN’s World News and NBC Nightly News provided brief mentions, with only NBC noting the Rosty angle. Only NBC’s Garrick Utley kept the old outrage, declaring in a March 27 “Final Thoughts” comment: “Every new President likes to say `Under me, it’s not going to be politics as usual.’ At the Justice Department, it looks as if it still is.”
To complete the story, Bush 43 fired eight AGs and the media made it sound like Kristallnacht. The hypocrisy at the time made my head swim. The one’s Bush fired were likely so political that Bush had no confidence they would do their job.

Well if were President, taking over from a RAT, firing EVERY US Attorney would be one of my first actions.
Things are going so well, I’m now nervous about Republicans peaking too soon.
