Andy Raymond, a Rockland, Md., firearms dealer, found out how much some people who love guns and the Second Amendment really hate some guns, causing the owner of Engage Armament this week to reverse his plan to sell the Armatix iP1, the nation's first "smart" gun.
The German-made Armatix iP1 won't fire unless it's in proximity of a special watch, thus making it useless if stolen. Gun control advocates, including Attorney General Eric Holder, have cited such technology as potential life savers.
But the NRA and many gun owners say it's a government Trojan horse...
When Mr. Raymond said he'd sell the Armatix, he was deluged with complaints and threats against his life, even the life of his dog. Before relenting on Thursday, Raymond lashed out against his critics in a YouTube video.
"That's the antithesis of everything that we pro-gun, pro-Second Amendment people should be," he said. "You are not supposed to say a gun should be prohibited. Then you are being no different than the anti-gun people who say an AR-15 should be prohibited."...

Welcome.
I support tech that can improve firearms.
Like better computerised optics...that don’t connect to the outside world.
When this “smartgun” idea was first pitched, my retort was “we will see how well it goes by comparing it to smart phones..we have websites dedicated to how those devices screwed up.”
I’m a tech guy - make a living with it. So I tend to embrace it before I reject it. The thought of securing my weapon sounds appealing but it’s good to consider the drawbacks.
I work security and have to consider how the same tech I use can be used against us or disabled in turn.
It was a small feat to convince the hierarchy here at my site to not stick a “remote access” into the access control system.
“But what if I need to open doors from my home?” -site manager.
“If you can log into the access system from home and open doors, so can someone else. Besides, we are here. If someone needs in that badly, they can talk to us.” -our office boss.
Downside of powered tech is that the power is finite and must come from somewhere.
For all the bells and whistles, without power our access system is an exorbitantly expensive dust catcher.
