Posted on 05/05/2014 7:34:29 AM PDT by Hojczyk
Joni Ernst, the Republican Senate candidate who received national acclaim for a campaign ad touting her background castrating hogs on an Iowa farm, rides her Harley Davidson to the gun range for some target practice in her latest spot.
Ernst carries more than just lipstick in her purse, a narrator on the ad says, adding that once she sets her sights on Obamacare, Joni's gonna unload.
Ernst has a concealed carry permit in Iowa, and according to an Ernst campaign aide, the impressive accuracy wasn't a television trick. Ernst took the shots herself that resulted in a tight spread on the target sheet, the aide said.
It's also her motorcycle in the ad, a Harley Davidson Softail Deluxe.
Ernst is holding a slim lead in the race in public polls despite being significantly outspent by Mark Jacobs, a wealthy businessman. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin recently endorsed Ernst and appeared at a rally with her in Iowa a week ago.

These kinds of ads are great
Here’s hoping Iowans are smart enough to send this lady to DC
Anyone who has done both calves and hogs can tell you that calves are way easier-- far less kicking, squealing and wiggling.
Hawkeyes nearly always get it wrong!
I figure this lady knows how to cut pork....a skill necessary in DC
Interesting, left eye dominant right handed shooter. She did pretty well....
Did she jump a shark along the way?
Interesting, left eye dominant right handed shooter.
That shows she has spent some time on the practice range. IMO.
She appeals to us and hopefully takes the primary. From wheat I have observed(I am not from there) she would be our strongest candidate. But I wonder if these are helpful ads for the fall election where it will be close.
I don't recall the Constitution requiring that.
Our dorm floor helped out one of our guys castrate his dad’s pigs in exchange for the oysters. It’s pretty surprising how much pee an average piglet holds. It’s the fastest surgery I’ve ever seen.
Wish she would take a gun to Ethanol.
Pray America wakes up
Andrew Zimmern ate those hog “oysters.”
That’s a neat ad!
Braley isn't selling well in Iowa and has actively turned off some voters by deprecating Grassley and farmers. Harkin and Obama aren't on the ticket. Branstad is and figures to win big. The GOP candidate should benefit from large coat tails. However we must give the devil his due. As past president of the national trial lawyers and as the member of congress receiving the largest contributions from lawyers he's bound to be a good debater. Running our weakest debater won't work. Running on just who you are may work for Obama, but I doubt it will work for a Republican. Clovis is the best grounded and the best debater; I just wish he weren't the least photogenic candidate in the country. Whatever Sarah sees in Ernst better start showing on the stump and in the debates or her endorsement will backfire.
At least sheknows now what to work on. Maybe deebateing would not be the best strategy.
Debates aren’t the only way folks decide, but it is one free way to relate to many potential voters at once. Although I expect a lot of national $ to go to whomever wins our primary, we’ll probably end up being outspent. Lefty lawyers have lots of $ and Braley is their #1 candidate. Dodging debates seldom looks good. Only incumbents expected to win easily can get away with it. The left won’t admit it, but Palin’s secret weapon in Alaska was she’s a very good debater. It got her noticed initially and it got her over the top eventually.
Ernst at least was noticeable in the debate, but she was not a dynamo. She seems to be running on the 'Iowa nice' debate platform more than on the issues. But then, consider this is Iowa, from where Grassley has been elected forever and where he intends to run again! Maybe that works here.
Clovis is a complete candidate on the issues. If he can somehow get to the Senate he'll quickly become a Freeper favorite there both on content and on style points! If our neighbors to the north fail to purge Franken, Stuart Smalley will probably end up calling Clovis "a big fat idiot" on the Senate floor. Once. I'd pay to hear Sam's rejoinder.
Whitaker would probably be ok if he got there. His brain and heart seem generally in the right place. He was known as bright and an unusually hard worker back in his Hawkeye football days and seems to have maintained those traits. But he's green and second string compared to Clovis.
Jacobs is everything Mitch McConnell could ask for. Rich, handsome, smart and mouths a great conservative line. Until he talks about wanting to be a statesman, about knowing how to work with the other side to get things done and about how that is needed. He'll be on the GOPe leadership team shortly and will be leading it eventually. But then Braley would be plotting to replace Reid. So at worst, as either will be there 4+ terms, vote the RINO over the next Dungheap.
