WOW: 8th Grade Common Core Lesson in California Asks Kids If Holocaust Was Real or Just a

School officials said they will be rewriting a controversial essay question developed through the Common Core guidelines that asks eighth graders to consider whether the Holocaust a “real event” or “merely a political scheme created to influence public emotion and gain.”

From the San Bernardino Sun:

The district says the assignment is merely to teach students to evaluate the quality of evidence made by advocates or opponents of an issue. “When tragic events occur in history, there is often debate about their actual existence,” the assignment reads. “For example, some people claim the Holocaust is not an actual historical event, but instead a propaganda tool was used for political and monetary gain. Remember to address counterclaims (rebuttals) to your stated claim.

Wait, what? Since when do we debate whether tragic events happen? No one doubts 9/11 happened, or the disappearance of the Malaysian flight, or that Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans. Is this really “critical thinking”? According to their interpretation of the Common Core, it is:

The project was designed by district teachers and assigned during the eighth grade’s “Diary of Anne Frank” unit, according to district spokeswoman Syeda Jafri.

The Common Core state standards, which have been adopted by most states and the District of Columbia, emphasize critical thinking in students, which is what the assignment is intended to teach, according to school board member Joe Martinez. “One of the most important responsibilities for educators is to develop critical thinking skills in students,” Martinez wrote in an email Friday morning. “This will allow a person to come to their own conclusion. Current events are part of the basis for measuring IQ. The Middle East, Israel, Palestine and the Holocaust are on newscasts discussing current events. Teaching how to come to your own conclusion based on the

What’s the teacher’s name and background?

That Common Core idea, which sounds good until one starts to really think about it, provides the structure and means to propagandize the largest number of students in the shortest possible time.

Someone needs to post a link to the story with the school superintendent’s name. Something like Mohammed Izlam, and I’m not making this up.

Eisenhower knew this crap might come up; so he made sure things were documented as well as could be.

And at the time likely knew you could never document it enough to overcome the hatred.

A couple things noted looking at KLTA's Facebook page and The Blaze coverage.

More support for the assignment that I would have expected, critical thinking and all. The assignment recommended three sources for web research. About.com, History.com and Bible Believers, a Cristian Identity Holocaust Denial site in Australia. While I'd question if the first two are the best sited to reference, the latter Bible Believers site isn't one High School students should be directed to any more than Stormfront, Vanguard News Newwork, of La Voz de Aztlan. IMO directing students to hate sites is worse than the assignment.

Interestingly, Rialto is the home of the American Nazi Party. An Aryan Nations offshoot of the same name I believe, not the original ANP which is from Virginia. Interestingly the town made the news a few years ago when a open neonazi ran for the school board. Got less than 10% of the vote, a black woman and Hispanic man won the spots. As you'll note from the link (appears to be Rialto police), last year the superintendent of schools (black) was receiving death threats, and racial tensions have been high. Town appears to be about 14% black, 77% Hispanic, 5% white.

Are the teachers who promoted the idea that there wasn't a holocaust, Jew Haters, or are they just stupid?

I have contempt for government teachers. They **WILLING** seek work in these indoctrination camps. They **WILLING** accept money for implementing curriculum and policies that they KNOW ( or should know) HURT CHILDREN!!!

Every government school outrage that has ever been posted on Free Republic is due to teachers taking money for implementing evil.

Our nation's K-12 single-payer, socialist-entitlement, and GODLESS schools exist because millions of teachers agree to work for this abomination!

( Yeah! I am shouting.)

Government teachers are too evil, too stupid, or too much of a Useful Idiot to be a friend. I don't have abortion workers for friends, either!

I looked at the Church of Sydney Bible Believers website. It should be a hate crime to refer people to that organization. It made me sick. Whoever suggests school kids should read that site for historical information should be fired. The ignorance is poisonous and nauseating. I wish congress could hold hearings on this. It needs to be a big story. I know we don’t think much of wiki, but this one time they got it right:

“Bible Believers is the website of the Bible Believers’ Church of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Because the website reprints antisemitic material such as The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and Henry Ford’s The International Jew,[1][2] and Holocaust denial material from authors such as Bradley Smith and Mark Weber, a complaint was lodged under Australia’s Racial Discrimination Act.[2][3][4][5] In 2007, Justice Richard Conti of the Federal Court of Australia ordered Anthony Grigor-Scott to remove from the website antisemitic claims that Jews deliberately exaggerated the number of Jews killed during World War II.[3][6]”

Well enough of it is still there to qualify as a hate site. If it was even worse in the past, heaven help us.

It’s the real thing. Hate crime, no, but I suspect if a teacher referred students to a KKK site, there are several, to research whether slavery existed, or if it did, weren’t blacks better off, they’d be a former teacher.

btw, I’m supporting the conservative, likeable Rob Astorino for governor in NY State, who is STRONGLY against Common Core. Probably more against it because he has young school children himself.

IMO, They can leave that question on the assignment if they add this:

Do you think President Barack Hussein Obama was born in the United States of America? As there are many that do not believe he was.

I don’t think the KKK is an apt analogy. Did the KKK actually suggest slavery never existed? I would like to post the worst of what I read on the Sydney hate site, but I’m afraid I would be banned. The gist of it was that no gas chambers ever existed, & of the 30,000 Jews that died during the entire five yrs of WWII, most died of disease or old age. Oh, and they lived in an ‘large industrial city’, where such attrition would have been normal.

No, but it’s a prominent hate group and a teacher referring students to a KKK website would have serious problems.

That’s true. But there is a special kind of toxin brewed when hatred is combined with aggressive lies and even more aggressive ignorance. Hatred destroys the soul, but willful ignorance and deceit destroy the mind. While you still have a working mind you can recognize your hatred & repent. When the brainwashing is complete and the mind is gone, hope for repentance is virtually gone as well.
