The United States has said it will recognise the offices of the main opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) as a diplomatic foreign mission and announced plans for a $27m increase in non-lethal assistance to rebels fighting to oust President Bashar al-Assad.
The announcement came at the start of a visit to Washington on Monday by a Syrian opposition delegation led by Ahmad Jarba, president of the coalition, in his first official visit to the US since the SNC was set up in 2012.
Jarba is set to meet US Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday.
State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf said Washington was announcing new measures "to empower the moderate Syrian opposition and to bolster its efforts to help" those in Syria.
The US now recognises the coalition's representative offices in Washington and New York as "foreign missions under the Foreign Missions Act."
The upgrade will facilitate banking and security services for the opposition in the US and help it reach out to Syrians living in the US, Harf said. . .

My thoughts exactly. Next up for Al Qaeda is the U.N. with Obama as the official sponsor.
Let’s put it slightly differently to account for nuances on the ground:
ANY support sent to Syria is co-opted into Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda and other allied Islamists are the core of Assad’s opponents. They can control essentially everything outside of Assad’s patch.
Recognizing (or sending arms to) any of Assad’s opponents supports Al Qaeda indirectly, and KNOWINGLY.
The US will assist with the genocide of Syrian Christians.
This guy is now implementing stupid on top of stupid on top of stupid.

It’s been a struggle to figure out which side is worse, but after several years it’s clear that Assad is the lesser of two evils in Syria

This is either stupid or treason, or both, so it’s not surprising from Barry & Co.
Obama’s got to take care of his Al-Qaeda buddies. Makes one wonder what Obama was doing on 9/11? Dancing in the streets with Islamist buddies? He sure has proven his dislike of the USA.
But...But...the interventionists say that we have to engage in all forms of interventionism, “propping up,” etc.
We’ve switched sides in the war on terror.
Maybe it would be easier if Obama issued a decree that we all just kill ourselves.
