Years ago, I met a guy at the gun range who had been to one the camps in WWII. He certainly believed what he had seen.
He also had a nice couple of K98’s that were “Liberated” from one of Goring’s command’s. Nice old gentleman, who is probably gone now.

There were actually some 12 million people who died in the camps, not just the Jews, though they made up about half the entire number.
Even the most innocuous of dissent was grounds for suddenly finding yourself on the trains to the death camps. And homosexuals were by no means exempt, as they today somehow believe themselves to have some kind of immunity.

The story about a California school pushing Holocaust denial was brought up by Glenn Beck this morning, aka Jesus H. Christ, & his assistant now known as G-d C. Bible (no joke).

Counter to almost all the comments so far, I think this is an excellent approach for teaching kids to be critical of sources, to examine evidence versus opinions, the motives of witnesses, how participants hide their responsibility, and how political movements distort the past to use it for current ends. How the material is taught will make all the difference; I do not believe for a minute that the intent is to whitewash the Holocaust.
There is no more horrific, significant, and compelling episode in human history than the Holocaust. No student, unless mentally-ill, who actually looks at the real evidence can fail to be engaged and gain moral perspective, nor will they accept the patent lies and distortions promoted by the deniers. But at least some might learn how deniers and frauds structure their presentations to persuade ignorant, or emotionally-motivated believers. (Hopefully they will not see that as a set of instructions).
What if some of the kids developed the habit of questioning what they see on the internet and television, or ads for bogus products, or the lies and promises of Alinskyite politicians, or fake birth certificates?
