"Asian-Americans enter school with no discernible academic advantage over whites," said the study, noting that "advantage grows over time."
By fifth grade, or age 10-11, Asian-Americans "significantly outperform whites," and the peak difference is reached by grade 10, or age 15-16.
"Overall, these results suggest that the growing achievement gap can be attributed to a widening gap in academic effort rather than to differences in cognitive ability."
Asian-Americans tend to be motivated by cultural teachings that instill the notion that effort is more important than inborn ability, researchers said.
They also endure "greater parental pressures to succeed than in the case of comparable white peers."

"They also have more conflict with both parents than comparable white peers," it said."
Really? I have never heard that before.
Yeah because parents would kill the kids in Asian American culture LOL!
That’s because their parents don’t try to be their buddies.
They don’t try harder because they have a try harder gene.
They try harder because their parents push them.
Being pushed causes conflict as well as increased performance.
In other news, water has been discovered to be wet.
Yeah, that must be it. The worthless hippy generation and their worthless legacy. It’s going to be a real shame when the last hippy dies off. I am rolling my eyes, by the way.
“They also endure “greater parental pressures to succeed than in the case of comparable white peers.””
Greater parental pressure. That’s a nice way to put it.
I dare anyone to apply the same logic to African Americans.
You mean no trophies for showing up?
No kidding. Asian students outperform ALL other students (not just white students)for the same exact reason, but by specifying "white" students when drawing the comparison, the focus would rightfully remain on the factual observation, analysis, and conclusion as opposed to being on the mention of 'race', thereby diverting the focus of the article and generating the faux outrage that is usually associated with such factual comparisons.
You want to increase academic performance for all students; emulate the Asian students. Throwing more tax dollars at the problem will do nothing.
Yeah, but why does their culture teach that? Why do their parents push? Maybe because they're smarter in the first place? People act as though cultures are random, like the Culture Fairy took a magic wand and bestowed cultures on groups of people, and some got good cultures and others bad.
The left must hate Asians. They go absolutely against all the memes they use to try and control people.
Not all of them, of course. But more than here.
No. I mean greater parental pressure is a good euphemism for physical and psychological abuse.
Okay, so just because their advantage grows over time, why do we know that that is due simply to greater study? Asians mature more slowly than other races in other areas, so it would make sense to me that the same would pertain in intellectual power.
This is racist! /s
That would get my vote too.
You’re doing your homework! Get to it! NOW!
Here’s more on different races gaining in intellect at different rates. (E.g., black babies mature more quickly than white babies, who mature more quickly than Asian babies.)

White children are often under the influence of drugs to calm them down, which of course, makes it very difficult for them to learn properly.
Of course, we could do a simple experiment of taking Asian kids away from their parents and swapping them with non-Asian children. The Asian kids would be raised by non-Asian parents and vice versa.
It will never happen, but I don't think the results would be to their, libs, liking. Just like they don't like the book by Nicholas Wade, science writer for the N.Y Times, called "A Troublesome Inheritance" where he pretty much proves inherited intelligence.
And whites outperform blacks why?
