It was pretty much a rout for Tea Party/insurgents in yesterday’s primaries, as establishment-backed candidate for the North Carolina Senate nomination Thom Tillis easily exceeded the 40% threshold necessary to avoid a run-off, while incumbent House members John Boehner (OH), Renee Elmers (NC), Walter Jones (NC), David Joyce (OH), and Susan Brooks (IN) defeated challengers from the right. But before concluding that all is hopeless, consider a few aspects of the situation.

Bump. Yes, lessons to be learned from the Tillis win in N.C. Lick wounds, fight on, there are plenty of other ongoing primary fights that should be won (highest probability, not limited to):
Sasse in NE
McDaniel in MS
Carr in TN
A few lessons from N.C. (in no particular order):
a crowded field is bad for the Tea Party candidate (having Harris in the race killed Brannon); other states with this same problem - GA, LA, AK, MT, IA, SD, WV ...
Tea Party candidate profile - recruiting from existing state legislators (who have won a previous state election) is ALWAYS preferable to brand new candidates;
Establishment candidate profile - if the establishment candidate has a track record that can be perceived by this electorate as 'sufficiently' conservative, the hill is almost insurmountable (Tillis had some good accomplishments with the Gov);
Money - a Tea Party candidate has to be self-sustaining or able to raise sufficient money to keep somewhat close to the Rove machine;
Campaign strategy - have a smart experienced group of advisers and don't let the Rove team label you as extreme or fringe.
You understand what time it is.
Most unfortunately …. do not - or refuse to see it because they are infected with a fatal case of Normalcy Bias.
Walter Jones was a conservative favorite here, against an establishment plant that posed as a “Tea Party” candidates, not all is as it seems..!
Thus far will agree about N.C. but Nationwide think Americans managed a draw. The fight shall continue as all lick our wounds (imho). The bottom line or the line did not move as far as can assess between right and wrong. Maybe am in denial, (that river in Egypt), but Americans are not in over our heads and going down though Americans have waded into the water (imho). Sometimes one has to wade into the water and risk being drown. Maybe have gone under two times but have a third one, I think, but am looking to avoid a third time under.

Some of this has to do with Tea Party candidates just being too conservative for these districts. I don’t expect a lot of tea party folks to win in these primaries.

I’m a bit raw on NC right now…..I was with Taylor Griffin last night when he realized he would fall just short of Jones…..this was not a classic TP versus the estab race, but Jones is just an very intellectually bankrupt guy who needed to be replaced. A 20 or 22 year incumbent I think.
And Brannon’s team was awful - shame - great man, would be a great Senator. But he kept his inexperienced team, even after his camp had the ability to upgrade with some better people. We all will pay for that. Tillis could have been forced into a run off, and Brannon would have won that I think.

Funding, funding, funding
Any insurgency without funding has to start at a lower level and work up. I’d guess the state rep level would be about right. It’s a small enough geographic area that door to door can offset big bucks.
I'm with you. As to last night's results, consider this:
Would there be a House Select Committee on Benghazi without the Tea Party?
Amnesty would be the "law of the land" without the Tea Party. That's why immigration reform will not come until after November's elections. It may not come then, either, depending on the size of the Republican onslaught in November.
GOPe knows their hold on power is tenuous without the Tea Party, that's the base of their party...for now.
Remember one Tea Party candidate that did just as you preach ... She went door to door. She won and is still safe.
Bingo. This is absolutely what is. Missing: a top-to-bottom understanding of why BOTH drones and amnesty are bad; why “global warming” is a hoax not just against laborers but against truth and science. No one on our side so far had that ability to connect the dots.
In can, and had happened both ways in American history. Libs completely took over the Dem party, while the Whigs indeed faded out and were replaced. But without a single, sectional, issue, replacement is FAR less likely than internal takeover. It took the libs 50 years, going back to Henry Wallace’s failed bids, to seize control of the Dems, which is precisely why I say it’s a marathon.
Or that complaining is campaigning.
I would cation to vote against Obama no matter what in the general election no matter what happens in the primary.
