The House of Representatives is expected to vote today on whether to hold Lois G. Lerner, former director of the Internal Revenue Service Exempt Organizations Division, in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena issued by the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
Lerner pleaded the Fifth at committee hearings in 2013 and earlier this year.
You can read a copy of H. Res. 568 here.
Today's contempt of Congress resolution is not without precedent. In 2012, the House voted to find Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for failing to turn over documents relating to the failed gun-walking operation "Fast and Furious." The resolution passed, 255-67. You can watch that debate and vote here.
In 2008, the House voted to find Bush aides, White House Counsel Harriet Myers and Chief of Staff Josh Bolten, in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over documents relating to the firing of federal prosecutors. That resolution passed 223-32. You can watch that debate here.
The House is also expected to debate a second resolution, H.Res. 565, offered by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), which calls on Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a special counsel to investigate the Internal Revenue Services targeting of conservative groups. A vote is not expected to take place until tomorrow.
