LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — Islamic militants killed hundreds of people in an attack on a border town in Nigeria's remote northeast, a state government official said Thursday.
Shops and homes were set ablaze and razed in the attack Monday night on Gamboru Ngala, on Nigeria's border with Cameroon, Borno state information commissioner Mohammed Bulama told The Associated Press by telephone.
He said the fatality "figures are high — hundreds — but we are still awaiting details from the military authorities."
As many as 300 people were killed in the attack, according to local newspapers. The militants sprayed gunfire into the crowds of people at a busy market that is open at night when temperatures cool in the semi-desert region, reported ThisDay newspaper.
Nigerian federal Senator Ahmed Zannah said the attack lasted about 12 hours, according to the newspaper. The insurgents set homes on fire and gunned down residents who tried to escape from the flames, reported the paper.

The US has no forces positioned to bail them out if things go awry. We are dependent on the government of Nigeria.

If we intervene it will be with half-assed measures where the goal should be the complete destruction of the Muslim warlords in Nigeria. We should get the assistance of neighboring countries to ensure they don’t try to duck away across borders.

What’s strange? The only help obama sends is to his manic muslim brothers to kill those who think like them, he doesn’t give a rats ass about innocents or Christians killed. Also for the sarcastically challenged the implication was that any help sent by zeros misadministration would be to the muslim militants. Is that expanded enough for you?
Zero will never authorize US troops to attack a Muslim army, never mind how nasty. I can see an escalated drone hunt though.

That has nothing to do with anything.
Obama can put troops on the ground in this and there is no down side for him and not much resistance for our military either.
This is one he will get good PR from with no risk to himself or his rule.
We all know he is impotent in all meaningful international problems and he desperately needs a win at something. No one can really say anything bad about him trying to use our armed forces to rescue a couple hundred black girls in Africa.
You can bet on this happening and soon too with lots of news coverage. Then...... wait for it....... He will stand in front of a TV camera and tell the world how "he did it."
Good question, especially since Nigeria has the largest economy in Africa.
