Scarborough, Wagner Clash over Benghazi Email: ‘Don’t Insult Our Intelligence’
MEDIAite ^ | May 8th, 2014 | Evan McMurry

Thursday morning’s Morning Joe panel addressed the resurgence of Benghazi as a controversy following the release of a White House email, which, depending on your viewpoint, is either a smoking gun exposing a coverup or another detail in a largely settled narrative. Host Joe Scarborough and MSNBC anchor Alex Wagner were quickly were at odds with each other over the significance of the email, specifically whether it warranted the opening of another congressional inquiry.

“Reread that email,” Wagner suggested. “Everybody has focused on one of the talking points; the others are totally benign, exactly what you’d expect from the White House. The fourth one I think is open to interpretation; there’s going to be a lot of litigation that will continue about that. But for this to launch 1,000 ships—”

“To launch 1,000 ships!” Scarborough said. “When you have something that goes to the heart of the matter, when you say, Susan Rice, don’t talk about Barack Obama’s policy” — ["Failure of policy," Nicolle Wallace added] — “talk about a videotape? Of course, you know that goes to the heart of the matter. Don’t insult our intelligence.”

The ongoing media soap opera. One of the least interesting things around.

Is Scarborough planning on getting back into politics? Because he’s been a lot less RINO lately on the clips that I see.

Joe should have thrown out the Beth Jones (then Assistant Secretary of State to Hillary Clinton ) email to Cheryl Mills, Secretary Clinton’s Chief of Staff.

“When [the Libyan Ambassador] said his government suspected that former Qaddafi regime elements carried out the attacks, I told him the group that conducted the attacks—Ansar Al Sharia—is affiliated with Islamic extremists,” Jones reports in the email.

Among those copied on the emails: Deputy Secretary William Burns; Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman; Jake Sullivan, then-Deputy Chief of Staff (now promoted to national security advisor to Vice President Joe Biden); Under Secretary of State Patrick Kennedy; Cheryl Mills, then-Secretary Clinton’s Chief of Staff (now on the board of directors of the global investment firm BlackRock); and Victoria Nuland, then-State Dept. spokesperson (now promoted to Asst. Secretary of State).

Alex Wagner, who thought Bridgegate was a national crisis, thinks Benghazi is a nothing burger.

The question that has to be asked and re asked is why, after an attack on a US Mission, the murder of an ambassador and three others, it is left to the US Ambassador to the UN, position with zero power over policy and action, to explain to the People what happened. It is a crime that not one of the five interviewers asked, “ Why are you here instead of the Secretary?”

The reason Rice was put out there was precisely because she knew next to nothing about it, hadn’t been involved and didn’t have any responsibility for taking any action or even following it as it happened. All she had to do was get out there and read the statement, and there wasn’t really anything anybody could ask her because she honestly didn’t know anything.

Somebody else might have inadvertently said something that would reflect Obama’s culpability or negligence (where was he that night and why wasn’t he in the Situation Room?) or would have pointed to their own culpability. I thought it was very interesting that not only did the people actually involved not appear to explain right after the event, but were immediately taken out of the public eye by being sent on extended foreign trips, or having some sort of unspecified health crisis that necessitated their complete rest and seclusion, or even, in some cases, were retired from their positions or were moved into other positions that would keep them out of sight.

“ Why are you here instead of the Secretary?”

Susan Rice was used as a "Cats Paw" by Clinton. She's a minority and therefore gets the soft soap treatment from the press and Clinton didn't want to be caught in a lie when she knew that eventually the truth would come out. Typical Clinton MO.

Clearly I know that but Republicans should keep asking the question and demanding an answer. Sometimes the UNambassador is involved in policy formation because the UN will be involved or consulted. Adlai Stevenson and his role in the missile crisis comes to mind. But here Rice is called on to speak for State and the Administration and not one Sunday morning superstar asks her why she, and not Clinton or her first deputy is speaking. Everyone knew why she was there and they all, including Baier at FOX, let her and Clinton and Barky get away with it.
