CA Obamacare Patients Driving to Tijuana, Mexico for Cheaper, Faster Care
Breitbart ^ | 8 May 2014 | Wynton Hall

California Obamacare patients are finding it more affordable to drive to Tijuana, Mexico for health care treatment than to use their high-deductible Obamacare plans.

Irma Montalvo tells USA Today seeing a Tijuana doctor only costs $15 and that she likes her Mexican doctor better.

"She listens to me," said Montalvo, a U.S. citizen who was born in Mexico, said in Spanish. "I come here feeling really bad, and three days later I am better."

The Obama administration has lamented the fact that Latino Obamacare enrollments remain surprisingly low. However, according to USA Today, "Mexican immigrants living in California, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico have long sought health care in border cities such as Tijuana, Mexicali and Nogales. The Affordable Care Act won't change that, experts said."

Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture at the UCLA School of Medicine Director David Hayes-Bautista said high U.S. costs and low access may mean that "it's possible even more U.S. residents may seek care with Mexican doctors."

A 2009 study found that half a million Mexican immigrants living in California get their medical care in Mexico because their green cards allow them to travel back and forth across the border easily.

The trend of Latinos forgoing Obamacare coverage because they prefer Mexican doctors, faster service, and significantly lower prices than their high Obamacare deductibles allow stand to further frustrate Obama administration efforts to coax Latinos to sign up.

Lorena Villaneuva cleans homes in Riverside County, California and recently purchased a $150 a month Obamacare plan. Still, Villaneuva said she prefers getting care in Tijuana.

"To be honest, I like to come here [Mexico] better even if I have insurance. Over there it's wasting money and time," said Villaneuva.

And soon it won’t just be the Mexicans. I have wondered if the reservations could put up hospitals outside Obamacare too.

Hey, that's in the 3,000,000,000,000 page ACA act. Didn't you read that part? It's there. "Fleeing" is one of the categories making health care affordable.

It always seems to surprise and frustrate the left when people continue to work in their own interests.

Cheaper. Faster. Better.

That's where Steve Austin would go.

Hmmm .... I wonder how long Lorena is going to be paying $150/month for essentially nothing via NObamacare? $150 per month would pay for a lot of medical care in Mexico.

I don’t know what the comparison is today but several years ago I knew of a group
that chartered a bus once a quarter and went to Mexico to essentially buy their
meds. They spent 8 hrs or so there shopping and getting their meds before
boarding the bus back.

So, the millions that were uninsured that we had to save, already had cheap medical care. They just wanted it cheaper. Like free. So it now cost them and us more so they just run back across the border. This is all bull$hit.

I had dental work done in Mexico a few years back. Cost here was gonna run me about 12K. Had a friend recommend a dentist in Mexico. Wound up costing me less than 4K even after travel expenses.

Same equipment, same procedure. Crowns and all.

I don't know these people, so it isn't a recommendation. But it will become more and more common for anything that is not an emergency to be shopped around the world. I know my Indian colleagues all go back to India for medical care.
