Beverly Hills has banned fracking. Which makes it "the first municipality in California to prohibit the controversial technique for extracting natural gas and oil from underground rock deposits," according to Reuters.
As Gary Schmitt of the American Enterprise Institute comments, "The City Council of Beverly Hills has unanimously voted to ban hydraulic fracking within the city’s boundaries. Obviously, the movie and television industry is doing well enough that no one needs the extra cash that might come from accessing underground deposits of natural gas. Plus ... it’s really difficult to get those drilling rigs into place! We’re still waiting, however, for Beverly Hills to ban pedophilia."
The vote wasn't even close, says Reuters:
The unanimous vote by the Beverly Hills city council gives final approval to fracking ban, which was given the initial go-ahead by the panel last month. Council members, five of whom voted in favor of the ban, did not publicly discuss the measure on Tuesday. It will take effect on June 6.
Beverly Hills is one of the nation's most affluent cities and is home to numerous luxury retailers, but it is not untouched by the oil industry. Oil drilling has for decades occurred at Beverly Hills High School, but the city council in 2011 voted to bring that to an end in 2016.

How about they ban anything derived from oil from being imported/transported into BevHills?

I am sure they will understand why the rest of us will unanimously vote to remove all their access to electrical power except from solar and wind, impound all their gasoline power vehicles, remove all their clothing which contains any synthetic fibers and all their food from restaurants and grocery stores.
There is no need to frack in this area.
Oil literally oozes out of the ground, and they have made it a sin to take that.
BH was the first city to ban oil drilling years ago. Now with directional, they are suing cities next to for the money be drilling next to them.
Typical Liberal “it feels good but is useless” nonsense. If Beverly Hills really wanted to do something to help the environment, they would require stores to shut off their lights earlier and force houses to get rid of unneeded lights via zoning. Have all those fancy stores and houses operate on the same wattage as a 1,600 square foot rancher. That would help the environment more than banning fracking, but we all know that these gestures are just holier-than-thou, feel-good, pat yourself on the back nonsense.

There’s a context to this — for many years there was an active oil well right next to the sports field at Beverly Hills High School, leading to a series of high profile lawsuits when a pattern of cancers among former high school athletes began to develop years later. I have personal knowledge of this because of some of the people who became ill were my friends. Whatever the facts of the case — and I honestly don’t know what’s true and isn’t here — the city is jumpy around issues of energy extraction because of it.
I wonder what they think “fracking” means.
Stupid Californians live in an earthquake zone and worry about fracking.
If they really want to help, they should ban private jets.
