Obama Administration to Schools: 'Equal Access' for Illegal Immigrants
Breitbart ^ | 5/9/14 | Tony Lee

Posted on 05/09/2014 9:03:11 AM PDT by Nachum

On Thursday, President Barack Obama's administration issued new guidance to schools, emphasizing that they cannot discourage illegal immigrant students from enrolling by requiring proof of legal status.

As Politico reported, the Obama administration noted that schools "can violate federal law by requiring Social Security numbers or birth certificates when a student wants to enroll," but they can be compliant if they "instead ask for proof of residency in a school district, which a family can do with an electric bill or copy of a lease."

In a "Dear Colleague Letter," the Obama administration stated that under federal law, school districts "are required to provide all children with equal access to public education at the elementary and secondary level." The letter added that they had "become aware of student enrollment practices that may chill or discourage the participation, or lead to the exclusion, of students based on their or their parents’ or guardians’ actual or perceived citizenship or immigration status."

The Obama administration had sued schools in Alabama that had required parents to verify the legal status of their children before enrolling. After a settlement, parents were no longer required to verify the immigration status of their children.

Saying such policies violate federal law, the administration further emphasized that a school district may "not bar a student from enrolling in its schools because he or she lacks a birth certificate or has records that indicate a foreign place of birth, such as a foreign birth certificate."

From L.A. to Yonkers,
There’s nothin’ so bonkers,
and we always collect our fee!
So it’s way hey stow them away,
we plunder and tax all abound,
Be it Latino or Asian, there’s no ruse that’s craven,
and no one can make is shut down...

I think the pendulum will be swinging back pretty soon. It’s already begun in France.

Court challenges 'should' knock that down. Why should an illegal be allowed 'equal' access that legal residents have unless that state now allows 'equal' access for students from other states, as well?

On what basis of law or even common sense?! Oh... right. Neither of those registers with this administration.

There are unintended consequences... and then there are covertly intended consequences.

There is no “federal law” that mandates this.

Just one Supreme Court decision from 1983 - Plyler v. Doe.

And that was criticized then and now as a Constitutional joke.

The citizenry has every right to restrict access to taxpayer funded services to those who are part of the citizenry or invited guests - lawful permanent residents.

We are under no requirement to accommodate those who break in and demand our money just because they feel entitled.

And “residency” does not trump citizenship, as Obama, Rick Perry, and the entire chattering classes seem to think.

"instead ask for proof of residency in a school district, which a family can do with an electric bill or copy of a lease."

That's racist!

What if they are illegally squatting on someone else's property, or have invaded someone's home? The lack of "proper documents" like an electric bill clearly discriminates against people who live in abandoned vehicles or under bridges.

Regards,

It would be one thing, if they gained access to an actual education that would fit them for an employable future either here or back in their home countries.

Another thing altogether if they are only going to these institutions of “learning” for indoctrination and guidance as to how to become a drone or welfare recipient.

Is this benefiting children of illegal aliens born in the US or children of illegal aliens brought over the border illegally (not much difference IMO)? Another burden on US taxpayers... impeach the sonnuvawhore.

Charge their parents the same amount that everyone else pays in property tax.

Sounds like the basis to run for president now too.
