Some estimates I’ve read is that there are a couple of hundred Russian specnaz commandos. They are aided by hundreds more Ukrainian former police types (like Berkut, the ones that shot people on Maidan in Kiev) and tons of unarmed local civilians (the ones that advance towards Ukrainian APCs hoping to provoke a response)
