Extreme Christian lobbyist threatens 'relentless national boycott' of whichever NFL team drafts openly gay rookie Michael Sam

An influential Christian lobbyist has said he is planning to build a 'national coalition' to relentlessly boycott any team that drafts gay NFL prospect Michael Sam.

Jack Burkman, head of the Washington, D.C. lobbying firm J.M. Burkman & Assoc., said he would 'leverage his political clout' to ensure that the franchise that selects the player would get 'roughed up financially.' ...

'We shall exercise our First Amendment rights and shall not stop until the drafting NFL franchise cannot sell a single ticket, jersey or autographed football,' said Burkman. 'In short, we shall be relentless.' ...

Some owner will want to be “the one”, feted by the beautiful people.

Then they’ll want to scratch that owner’s eyes out, when the team cuts him.

Sorry Jack, this is the kind of crap the Left pulls. Maybe you could find work getting “Islamaphobe” speakers ousted from their commencement addresses.

On the other hand if someone wants to boycott the entire NFL for letting themselves become shills for Obamacare and gun confiscation I’m all ears.

Because nobody ever heard of Michael Sam until his agent got him some extra publicity. It was common knowledge that the guy is really not NFL material, but then he leveraged the gay thing and suddenly everybody’s asking who will draft him. What? The guy is a late round pick — at best.

Look at Johnny Football. The guy was hyped to the moon with people tagging him as a number 1 or top 5 draft pick. The kid fell to number 22 after a number of teams passed on him. Michael Sam may likely not get drafted, but the gay thing sure did leverage any possible opportunity from an otherwise unremarkable athlete.

I wish somebody would call me an “extreme Christian”, I’d wear the label proudly.

There have been gay players in the past. There are probably some now.

If there are they stay private. It's no one's business but theirs.

My mother's advice was always to keep private your politics, your religious views, and your sex life. (Thanks Mom and Happy Mothers' Day)

His odds of being drafted are no better than 50-50. He had a terrible Combine and his stock cratered. Add to that whatever issues his political agenda brings to a locker room, which no player, even the ones who're closeted gays want, and it's likely he will be signing as a free agent.

If he is drafted, look for the sports media to make a huge deal of it. His homosexuality will be mentioned roughly as often as John Kerry's having been in Vietnam. During the season, we'll hear about his "courage" on every given Sunday.

Here's the scouting report: “There’s production, but he’s short, he’s not a really good athlete and he doesn’t play good against the run. He’s kind of a one-task pass rusher. Just run up the field. And they swallow him up and kind of push him around.”

In a meritocracy, that gay thang doesn't really work. Look for calls for Affirmative Action coming soon to the NFL.

do homosexuals cheer for the center? does that constitue harassment?

Is football some sort of vegas strip show for homosexuals?

The closet is exactly where gay football players belong, not in the locker room.

I don't get it. The more that I know about athletes and celebrities, the less likely I am to like them. If they were smart, they'd keep their personal lives quiet.

A little mystery, please.

As someone stated before I repeated it, a team takes a big risk if they draft him. The crazies will accuse them of homophobia if they let him go.

I don’t want to know about what kind of ball a player plays with on his own time.

The problem is, you're not going to be allowed to not care. he will suck all the air out of the room for the whole season, since sports media people -- who already can't cover the sports angle and have to constantly harp on "human interest" -- will be falling all over each other to praise his "courage."

The Commish "wants very much for him to succeed." Why? The Commish thinks drafting him will "display the NFL's commitment to 'diversity.'" Last time I checked in, the NFL was not all that diverse -- nor should it be. It's all about football. Or at least, that's what real football fans want...

no self respecting normal person will want to be associated with it.

You're assuming there are people like that left in America.

I can just see CNN doing back flips out of the tenth story window over this.
They are so disgusted by normal average Man/Woman relationships.

The NFL is a liberal social engineering project. To me, any self described conservative should have stopped watching the NFL a decade or two ago.

Probably because folks at the Obama Administration are telling them...”Nice Anti-Trust Exemption you’ve got there, hate to see anything happen to it.”
