Trey Gowdy and the Real Lesson of Watergate (1973 Democrats blocked investigation of LBJ.)
The American Spectator ^ | May 8, 2014 | Jeffrey Lord

Posted on 05/09/2014 7:06:13 PM PDT by Kaslin

It is the real lesson of Watergate.

As South Carolina’s Congressman Trey Gowdy, the new chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, begins his task, it is worth recalling a lesson from Watergate. Specifically a lesson about the creation of what became known as the Senate Watergate Committee — and how the Senate Republicans of 1973 lost a fight that literally changed the course of American history.

The date is November 17, 1972. The Democrats in the United States Senate are not happy with the results of the just concluded presidential election in which their nominee and Senate colleague, South Dakota’s Senator George McGovern, had lost 49 states — all but Massachusetts and the District of Columbia — to President Richard Nixon.

In the middle of the campaign — back in June — the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee had been burglarized. Among other things, the objective was to bug the phones to monitor the DNC Chairman, ex-JFK and LBJ White House aide Lawrence O’Brien. The story had been a detail of the campaign, but a small one. Not until October had the story gained any kind of traction, moving in a bigger way from print media and the hands of the Washington Post’s young reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein to television. Walter Cronkite at CBS had spent two nights in a row on the scandal, a big deal in a day where the three TV networks only had a single half-hour news show at the dinner hour. There were strands of a story — a connection between Nixon’s re-election committee, the story of an intelligence fund at the committee. And not much else. The news reports had no effect whatsoever on Nixon’s impending landslide victory.

Great article.

It chronicles the domination of the dems since the Roosevelt years and the arrogance it's given them. It's an arrogance that allows them to be corrupt, and not blush. It explains a lot.

I hope Gowdy understands who it is we are dealing with. The evil they personify has become more than just slightly unsettling.

The worst part about Watergate was how anti-tax groups were targeted for IRS audits at a rate ten times greater than the national average. Remmeber when the commissioner flipped Congress the bird?

Then there was the illegal gun-running operation that cost a border agent his life. Nixon also slept through an attack on American embassy, then perpetuated a cover story for months, misleading the victim's families and the American people. And then there was the collection of everyone's phone calls by the NSA. That Nixon was a real monster.

DEMOCRATS RALLY TO SAVE HILLARY'S *** AT ALL COSTS: There’s a vocal chorus of Democrats urging Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to boycott Trey Gowdy's Benghazi committee. They fear appointing Democrat members would lend it credibility, and force Democrats to risk being pawns in a Republican political game.

Here we have proof-positive that Dummycrats should never ever be given political power. They use it like tin pot dictators in Third World satraps.

Lock-stepping Dummycrats spit on those hallowed vestiges of a government they would destroy---they want total power. The power-mad Clintons' grasp for power over and over again is terrifying.

If the Dummycrats had any sense whatsoever they would know that since the 11th century, the system of "Checks and Balances" was initiated in the Great Council Halls of Venice to keep the all-powerful Doges in check.

We need checks and balances now more then ever----to keep the power-crazed Clintons and lock-stepping Dummycrats from trampling us under their feet.

Republican congressman promises House will stop Obama’s abuse of power
Coach is Right ^ | 2/20/14 | Doug Book FR Posted by Oldpuppymax

Barack Hussein Obama has spent 5 years ignoring both the law of the land and constitutionally imposed limits on the power of the presidency. So far, republicans in both the House and Senate have done precious little to take this corrupt, Marxist plant to task on his countless abuses of executive authority.

But on Monday, during a segment with FOX News political analyst Jeanine Pirro, Congressman Trey Gowdy of South Carolina promised viewers that the House will use the “power of the purse” to end Obama’s obsession with rule rather than governance.

When Pirro asked the congressman if House republicans were actually going to DO it, Gowdy energetically responded “Blank Yeah,” (just in case his mother was watching.) more at coachisright.com ...

The only Watergate-Benghazi (F&F, IRS, ...) comparisons that interest me are the outcomes.

The guys who ran Nixon out of office were pros. We’ll see how Boehner and McConnell stack up.

The Dems are true enemies of America. This election MUST put them back into minority status.

Our future depends on it.

This can not be repeated and shout out enough

This is a screen grab of your post.

Please note that I added the red underline to point out that you did indeed say that the republicans are speaking glowingly of compromise.

I agree with you about the the Dems never playing nice and that they are ruthless at achieving their goals.

This is why the last three letters of their party end with rat

That’s all great but we can’t force media to cover it.

And they won’t....except FOX

Watergate....I followed it intently.....started slow.....media simply did not jump on the plumbers arrest in the beginning

When WashPo started pumping Deep Throat and Ben Bradlee and the Graham family gave the go ahead

That opened the floodgates

Other Nixon stuff had been the forefront..... Agnew....ITT scandal

Man today some group of shadowy Cubans got caught in Wasserman Schultz office and it would be a cataclysm of coverage

I think it took Watergate 6 months or more to come to a boil and focus on the cover up

Most media has given scant coverage to the plethora of Obama corruption

Let me clarify, this news story is why Republicans should never compromise. I never intended to mean that Gowdy was compromising in the Benghazi invetigation. Sorry my post implied that.

“Watergate was about one of Nixon’s staffers trying to get risqué pictures of his wife from the Democrats’ escort service. It was still in court a few years ago. Maybe it still is.”

The staffer was John Dean. The picture was of his fiance and future wife Mo Biner.

Mo Biner had been a part time call girl working as one of Xavier Hollander’s Happy Hookers, in a ring being run out of the DNC office.

The long version can be found in the book ‘Silent Coup’. A short version here:

The writer is incorrect as to the why of the break in.

The VVAW had deep ties to the democrat party and it’s leadership. The VVAW was betraying our country by passing on military secrets to the NVC.

They had made plans and formed a squad to murder 20 US Senators (R) that supported the war, planned to bomb government building and even sieze them. Two members of the VVAW were arrested in route to an Agnew speech with “BOMBS” in their cars. It appeared that the DNC and the VAWW may have been planning a coup.

As a National “Dump the Democrats” Campaign strategy, ponder this:

* Would it be a good idea to ramp up attacks on the Democrat Party while still ramping up attacks on Obama? Thus, we would have more than one point of attack.
***** “Frame,” (a Saul Alinsky tactic that Obama uses in each speech), ALL Democrats to be willing members the Political Party of: Lies, Denials, and refusals to Comply with Federal Laws.
*****Contrast the Framed, counterculture Democats with the rest of us Americans that are held to American Core Value Standards:
1.) Tell the Truth ___________________________________________Honest
2.) Affirm the occurrence of a legal or duty violation_________Accountable
3,) Obey the Law of the Land________________________________Responsible

For example:

Bull Horn Leader: “Who __yuh-gunna__ vote__ for?”

Crowd: “Not__ the__ Democrats__ who__ lie__ Lie__ LIE!”

Bull Horn Leader: “Who__ yuh-gunna__ vote__ for?”

Crowd: “Not__ the__ Democrats__ who__ deny__ Deny__DENY!”

Bull Horn Leader: “THEN__WHO__yuh-gunna__vote__FOR?”

Crowd: “NEVER__the__Democrats__who__refuse__to__comply__Comply__COMPLY!”

Note: Due to the time it takes for sound to travel from the front to the back of a cheering crowd, the Bullhorn leader needs to set a slower cadence for a larger crowd in order for maximum sound clarity at a long distance,- - - - but you already knew that, my bad.

_____________________

Observation: Democrats are 2 year old spooled brats who lie, deny and refuse to comply with the wishes of their adult authority figures, usually Mom and Dad.

Democrats never grew up, and then they gravitate as adult 2-year olds to the only profession that rewards one who lies, denies and refuses to comply: Politics. For example, Obama, Holder and Lerner.

As their main defense Democrats, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, use the school yard tactic of peer morality: “Everybody does it so why do you think that your are so high and mighty?” For example, “Bush did the same thing, so what is the big deal?”

In summary, my point is that, (IMHO, of course), if we fall into the Democrat’s peer morality trap of “Republicans do it too, so stop being hypocritical! ” it will be because we have “Framed” the Republicans, Tea Party, Conservatives, etc. as being without any blame or shame.

Thus, to avoid the Democrats trap, do like Speaker Gingrich did: NATIONALIZE THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN.

IOW, use “WE, THE PEOPLE” as a contrast to the Democrats that y’all have “Framed” as being those who lie, deny and refuse to comply.

Thus, the issue is Nationalized as a “We the People” against the corrupt and irresponsible Democrats, including their Leader Obama.

Also, at some point the low information voter will have sympathy for the continous attacks on Obama if ONLY Obama is attacked. and cast their sympathy votes for “ the devil we know.”
