Charlie Crist is seriously being promoted as candidate for the Governor of Florida, on the Democrat ticket. Now, Charlie does have a record as Governor of that state, so he is not exactly an unknown quantity. Only, it was as a Republican.

Charlie Crist did neither the Republican brand or the state of Florida any good. There were several cash-flow problems, eventually resolved by raising taxes and fees, and a little “creative” investment with certain of Florida state funds and trusts. To be fair, most of that “creative” investment was at the hands of the person who was then the state’s chief financial officer, Alex Sink, and blame was passed around to the Attorney General at the time, Bill McCollum, as well. All three ran for alternative elective positions in 2010 at the end of their respective terms, and all three were thoroughly drubbed at the polls.

Rick Scott came on the scene in 2010, and flashed to the top because he was seen as somewhat less corrupt than any of the others at the time, in the run for Governor, and he ended up matched against - Alex Sink. Even with all the loud clamor at the time, Rick Scott still came off the winner, and by all odds, he has governed reasonably well, certainly with much more acumen than Charlie Crist ever did.

And Charlie wants back in? Not here, not now and not ever again. Rick Scott does have the financial health of Florida at heart, and while he is not everybody’s picture of a conservative (remember, this is the state that gave us Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio), he does represent the interests of the state quite well.

And next year, my auto tags are going to cost $25 LESS. Us old folks tend to remember things like that.

Old guy on the beach with a metal detector and boring stories about how many coins he found last week.

Perfect image.
