Forget Benghazi. Clinton’s Real Problem Is Obama Fatigue.
The New York Times' The Upshot ^ | May 8, 2014 | Brendan Nyhan

The latest investigation into the Benghazi attack reminds us that the issue isn’t going away any time soon. Pundits are already speculating about potential damage to Hillary Clinton’s presidential prospects, but don’t believe the hype: Scandals rarely matter much in presidential election campaigns.

A far more significant threat to her potential candidacy is Americans’ desire for new leadership after eight years of the Obama administration. A Pew Research Center/USA Today poll found this week that 65 percent of Americans would “like to see a president who offers different policies and programs.” Only 30 percent said they wanted ones “similar to those of the Obama administration.”

Some of those disaffected citizens are presumably Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who will ultimately support the party’s nominee in 2016, but the problem that the poll highlights is real. Alan Abramowitz, an Emory University political scientist, calls this the “time for change” effect.

“When a party has held the White House for two or more terms,” he said, “voters will be more likely to feel that it is time to give the opposing party an opportunity to govern.” Consider, for instance, the 1992 Clinton campaign mantra “change vs. more of the same” that was featured in the documentary “The War Room.”(continued)

PIAPS will try to run against Hussein’s record even though she was an active part of it. The ‘Rat dominated media will abet her in the deception.

Obama fatigue = Bush fatigue from 2008.

The Democrats are about to find out "what goes around, comes around."

They ran against Bush (not McCain) in 2008 and won. They ran against Bush again throwing Romney in for good measure, and won again.

After 8 years of failed economic policies and running America into the ground in the eyes of the rest of the world, Obama Fatigue is gonna set in. Obama = Clinton = Democrat Party.

That's a losing combo.

Scandals don’t matter in presidential campaigns. I remember when they did. Gary Hart comes to mind.

What about filegate?

What about Whitewater?

Travelgate?

What about being a lifelong NY Yank fan?

How about her namesake, Sir Edmond?

What about her exaggerated reports (IIRC) of being under fire?

What about reports of missing WH items (IIRC, dinnerware and art)?

And, many, many more.

Hillary is very defeatable.

Stay optimistic, my FRiends.

There’s a significant possibility that the 60+% of the nation’s effort in the year of 2015 will be spent trying to have Hillary not elected. Wonder what that will do to GDP?

I would add Boko Haram, the failed healthcare attempt, Arkansas education. Each one in and of itself isn’t enough to sink her. Taken as a whole, it highlights her corruption and ineptness. The woman's incompetence rivals Obama’s.

Gary Hart was a long time ago. Remember Bob Dole's lament in 1996: "Where's the outrage?" There was no outrage. The Soviet Union was history, the economy was building to a bubble, the average American stuck his head in his ass, and said "Outrage? What for? Let the good times roll."

Well, the good times have rolled past us now but the majority of American heads have remained stuck in rectal defilade. If Benghazi can't arouse them to seek daylight, nothing will.
