Millions of Californians missing from the registration rolls
Sacramento Bee ^ | May 11, 2014 | By Jim Miller

... Experts say there are multiple reasons for the shortfall, such as residents here moving more often, bureaucratic hurdles and uncompetitive statewide contests that fail to capture the public’s attention. Whatever the causes, the result is the same: an electorate that is whiter, older and wealthier than the state as a whole and a large share of the population disengaged from the laws and representatives chosen in its name.

“It’s a particularly big problem – there’s a big difference between people who vote and the people who don’t vote in California,” said Mark Baldassare, president of the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California.

“It’s a particularly big problem – there’s a big difference between people who vote and the people who don’t vote in California,” said Mark Baldassare...

I think the primary difference is that the former are citizens, and the latter are illegals. (although many illegals do vote...)

If they can’t make a small effort to register, I doubt that they will take the time to learn about the issues either. No great loss as far as I can see.

In a chronic phenomenon of under-enfranchisement in the Golden State...

As if California isn't liberal enough... what difference would it make if those 6.4 million young voters... voted?

Whatever the causes, the result is the same: an electorate that is whiter, older and wealthier than the state as a whole and a large share of the population disengaged from the laws and representatives chosen in its name.

Nice. The article identified the demographic responsible for all the problems...

“It’s a particularly big problem – there’s a big difference between people who vote and the people who don’t vote in California,”

Could the difference be their status of being in the US legally or illegally?

The Democrats are upset they lost their brief 2/3rds supermajority in the California Senate and Assembly. They can’t nuke the state economy fast enough so must blow more borrowed taxpayer money to buy them.

“Millions of Californians missing from the registration rolls.”

They’re not missing, there is a staging area in Tijuana.

The SacBee knows very well what is going on here. It is
a cycle effect and the MSM keeps the wheel spinning.
One political party, the Democrats, can never do anything wrong.
Their intentions are honorable and any hint of scandal is
snuffed. This attitude is reflected in editorials and news articles.
Enough Californians have been convinced of the goodness of the
Democrat Party that they already have more than enough voters
to throw most statewide elections to the Democrats. Really,
there are not enough folks who believe voting will make a difference.

The timing of this article is interesting since the deadline to vote in the primary is May 19, 2014.
