The U.S. Strategic Command, which is in charge of waging nuclear war, will hold large-scale bomber exercises this weekdays after Russia held what Moscow called massive war games simulating a U.S. and NATO nuclear attack.
Ten U.S. B-52 bombers and up to six B-2 strategic bombers will take part in the war games called Global Lightning 14 from Monday through May 16, the command said in a statement late Sunday.
The purpose is to demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness in training scenarios throughout the continental U.S., the command said in a statement from its Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska headquarters.
This exercise provides unique training opportunities to incorporate the most current technology and techniques in support of our mission, said Adm. Cecil Haney, Strategic Command commander. Continued focus and investment in our strategic capabilities allow US Stratcom to deter, dissuade, and defeat current and future threats to the U.S. and our allies.

After so many years on the job they can still perform their duties. Designed without modern computer aids and yet these slide-rule wonders just keep on flying.
They are beautiful in their own way.
Hey Tina Fey - The Russians can see the United States from their bombers.
Just think, it, the B-52 was designed just after World War II. BTW, I remember in 2003, they tried to duplicate the Wright Flyer using computer aids to fly for the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers only to have it flop and not fly. The Wright Brothers had only 1903 tech yet they made theirs fly. Come to think of it, I think the first true stealth plane was made out of wood, the British Mosquito.

After Regan won the Cold War, I stopped worrying about being vaporized by the G D Russians.
Thanks to Hussein, I’m going to start worrying again.
“Survival kit contents check. In them you’ll find:
one forty-five caliber automatic;
two boxes of ammunition;
four days’ concentrated emergency rations;
one drug issue containing antibiotics,
morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills;
one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible;
one hundred dollars in rubles;
one hundred dollars in gold;
nine packs of chewing gum;
one issue of prophylactics;
three pair of nylon stockings.
Shoot, a fella’ could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.”
Yes, I believe you are correct. The Mosquito was made of thin plywood because of an aluminum shortage. It would have been nearly invisible to the limited radars of the period.
With modern radar there is no such thing as true stealth. Nowadays, stealth just means you can get closer before detection...this can be a very worthwhile edge.
One sixteenth the radar cross section = one half the range.

Same here. We’re sandwiched in on some strategic locations. Nuclear power, steel producing, and missile manufacturing.
Yes, a uh, a profound sense of fatigue... a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I... I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence. I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women uh... women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I, uh... I do not avoid women, Mandrake. But I... I do deny them my essence.
