Daily Beast columnist Eleanor Clift said on Sunday’s The McLaughlin Group that late U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, who was killed the night of the Benghazi attacks, had not been murdered but had died from “smoke inhalation.”
“I’d like to point out that Ambassador Stevens was not ‘murdered,’” Clift said, using air quotes, “but died of smoke inhalation in a CIA safe room.”
This did not land well. “It was a terrorist attack, Eleanor,” panelist-for-life Pat Buchanan said. “He was murdered in a terrorist attack.”
Clift responded that it was an opportunistic terrorist attack inflamed by the anti-Muslim video, the blaming of which has caused so much trouble. “It was still a CIA [outpost],” Clift said. “If you’re going to put somebody on trial, put David Petraeus on trial, not Hillary Clinton.”
Host John McLaughlin finally stopped the discussion, saying “We’re going to be returning to this subject, I’m sure, repeatedly over the next six months.” Promise?

There are a ton of arsonists calling their lawyers right now to demand the Eleanor Clift defense.
When he resigned from Sec Navy and asked to join Army they said he could be a Colonel. He said no but would like to learn from someone as a Lieutenant Colonel. So he served under Leonard Wood.

I visited TR’s home on Long Island once. Near one of the back doors there was a small gun case. In it was a .30 caliber rifle with a coke can sized suppressor on it. He had it there so his young boys could shoot river rats early in the morning without bothering the neighbors. True story
She has a point. The 9/11 victims weren’t murdered either. Most of them died in an explosion and resulting building fire, and others suffered a bad fall.
The late actor, Montgomery Clift was her ex-brother-in-law.
