LeBron James: Entire Sterling family should be prohibited from owning Clippers
Sports Illustrated's SI Wire ^ | May 11, 2014 | Marc Weinreich

LeBron James said Sunday that no one in the entire Sterling family should be allowed to own the Clippers, according to Brian Mahoney of the Associated Press, who spoke to James during the team’s shootaround in Brooklyn before the team readies for Game 4 vs. the Nets on Monday.

James said it’s the right thing to do, from the players’ perspective, to disallow any kind of transfer of ownership within the Sterling family:

”As players, we want what’s right and we don’t feel like no one in his family should be able to own the team.”

The comments come less than a month after billionaire Clippers owner Donald Sterling was banned for life from attending games, and also fined $2.5 million, for racist comments he made to a friend during a taped private phone conversation this year. His wife, Shelly, said she has every intention of retaining majority ownership of the team, but Commissioner Adam Silver said he expects full support from the 29 other NBA owners who can force Sterling to sell the team he purchased for $12.5 million in 1981. Silver needs a three-fourths vote from the other owners to force the sale of the team.

James went on to say that he understands the sale is not going to happen overnight but just wants the league, and the Sterling family, to do the right thing:

”At the end of the day, this is going to be a long litigation when it comes to that. This guy who’s owned the team since the ’80s is not going to just give the team up in a day. So we understand it’s going to be long, but we want what’s right.”(continued)

You can be fined for making a comment?

Can I be fined for asking this question?

Use of the double negative means anything is fair play without any conscious awareness of their criminal thinking.

Who can blame an educated Jew for not wanting such people to be associated with his home, especially when they seek to target their adversary du jour for extortion at every opportunity.

Who should make such a statement—what racist thinking causes people to think this way? OK, so the Old dude made some rash comments—Old Thinking from another day-— Why should his family be punished? They didn’t say anything—why say the whole family should be punished?

LeBron James said Sunday that no one in the entire Sterling family should be allowed to own the Clippers...

At one point in our nation's history 'entire families' were owned as chattel - slaves. Done against the wishes of everyone in those families because many in this country wanted it, and the 'majority' allowed it.

It was the US Constitution that eventually freed them - our laws, and a President bold enough to enforce them to an extent beyond popular democratic will.

In effect, what I hear LeBron saying is "let's return to democratic mob rule and laws be damned."

LeBron James: Entire Sterling family should be prohibited from owning Clippers

What a fool!

In making such an overtly unjust and prejudiced statement, Lebron has outed himself as a bigot of the same hue as Mr. Sterling.

Is LeBron a hypocritical racist, or just a breathtakingly ignorant one?

Either way, Lebron's bigotry should be forcefully repudiated by any and all who truly wish to eliminate racism in our society.

Corruption of blood is so 18th century.

Exactly. This odious concept has been specifically repudiated in America, going back to the founding of our country.

Any belief in "corruption of blood" is overtly un-American.

The level of ignorance which is displayed by Americans of LeBron's ilk is both astounding and disturbing.

LeBron has severely overplayed his hand here, and displayed a distinct lack of nuanced understanding of the issues at hand.

Hopefully there are elements within the media who have enough integrity and courage to rebuke LeBron's shameful lecturing.

So which is it LeBron? Are you for or against the owner? Operative word in his quote is ‘don’t’. ....Black lingo just often leaves me guessing what is meant.

Pro athletes need to play their sport and stop flapping their gums in public about politics, foreign affairs and domestic issues.

If LeBron James wants to criticize Sterling for lacking class, it would only be proper to criticize his own when he decided to pull a Modell on Cleveland.
******************************
I don’t recall him criticizing his mom or his team mate who his mom was boinking. Real class....

LeBron James is worshipped like an idol, especially in Miami Florida.

His mom allegedly assaulted a parking lot attendant. No charges.

A bunch of cops gave him a personal escort to a Jay-Z concert, shutting down traffic lanes in the process. Nothing.

Early in his tenure shooting hoops here, he stormed off the court after a game, bumping angrily into his coach and going to the locker room. No repercussions.

He is called “King” James. He can do no wrong.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Lets just take this a step further.

ADD:

And not be allowed to attend any event, buy any gear or spend any money, whatsoever, on any product endorsed by ANY black athlete.

Better yet, All WHITES should be banned from being with 50 feet of ANY black - no matter the circumstance.

Of course, if ‘we’ can’t be within 50 feet of ‘them’, ‘they’ would no longer be able to mug, rob etc us - PROVIDING they obey the laws meant to protect ‘them’ from the evil WHITE Man.

I am not so sure I am trying to be sarcastic here....

James said it’s the right thing to do, from the players’ perspective, to disallow any kind of transfer of ownership within the Sterling family:

Unless I am mistaken, it is already owned by the family and the Dad within a Trust.

Let's see Lebron try to untangle family dynamics ( of which we have no knowledge of how they get along / interact ). Dealing with the Attorneys trying to get them to a consensus, Tax attorneys worried about capital gains if it does sell and that is just naming things that will make this sale an absolute mess that IMHO may take years to untangle.

I wonder if Lebron has ever worked with attorneys in complicated matters such as this or any complicated legal matters where family dynamics and personalities are evolved....

Good Luck with that Lebron....

This article says there’ll be no taxes because it’s a forced sale:

Still doesn’t get us around family dynamics and if they want to sell, and the attorney involvement in all this has got to be immense. IMHO I ask again, is Lebron that clueless?

I think the answer is yes. He's an athlete in a sport tailor-made for his physique. Take him out of that milieu and what is he?

If the players quit and don’t want to play for or against the Clippers, the teams can bring in Replacement Players and the fans would be happy to see some fresh players on the court and there may even be some Replacement Players that are better than LeBron.

It would certainly be a return to the good old days when the Clippers were by far the worst team in the NBA. And they still made money.

OK, well James should be prohibited from playing in the NBA for blasphemy, a far, far worse offence than racism:
Recalling the the 10-story-tall iconic image of James on a mural in downtown Cleveland which he obviously approved of

This article says there’ll be no taxes because it’s a forced sale...

But only if Sterling turns around and invests the proceeds in a similar property. So he'd have to buy another sports team. And I don't see the owners in any other league approving his buying a team.

Has LeBron uttered any anti-gay slurs? If so, Silver may be up his ass next. Silver’s orgasmic speech over the supposedly first gay in the NBA should be a warning.
