UKIP Set For Comfortable Win In Euro Elections
Sky News ^

Posted on 05/12/2014 2:34:28 PM PDT by UKrepublican

UKIP is on course for a massive political upset with victory in the European elections in its sights, according to an exclusive Sky News/YouGov poll.

The poll confirms that in recent weeks Nigel Farage's party has leaped ahead of Labour, with the Conservatives in third place and the Liberal Democrats lagging well behind.

The poll, which was carried out last week, shows UKIP on 31%, while Labour has slipped back to its lowest YouGov showing in weeks on 25%.

With both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats reasonably steady in the polls (the Sky News result shows Tories on 23%, Lib Dems 9%), the story of Labour voters switching to UKIP will alarm Ed Miliband and his advisers.

The poll also shows that UKIP is capitalising on a lack of trust in the Westminster parties among the electorate.

"Are they like Brit versoin of Tea Party" Exactly. Nigel Farrage is sort of the Brit version of a certain Congressman from South Carolina. TC

>> It won’t take long for our MSM to declare the UKIP dead like they did the tea party here. <<

Fortunately the UKIP doesn't "target" the most reliably conservative Tories for defeat and demand that its "time for them to go" and get replaced with some unknown businessman whose main claim to fame is that he's "Tony Blair's conservative cousin" or John Major's "fearless conservative grandson" who is carpetbagging in an area of England he hasn't been to since he was 12.

Nor do they blindly endorse some liberal douchebag celebrity with a long history of donating to socialists because he tells them what they want to hear at his announcement speech and yells the loudest about how much he hates the EU.

Nor do they run some clueless fool for MP because a radio talk show host and self-appointed "constitutional authority" for Great Britain told them that he's the candidate who will "save our Kingdom" and that they should campaign on some fridge issue of restoring the Queen's right to veto bills because "our Kingdom was destroyed when Queen Victoria lost that power and we must restore the vision that the founders had when they brought back the monarchy in 1660"

Seems to me the "Tea Party" leaders here could learn quite a bit from the UKIP, actually.

The American system has at its base a “winner take all” process. That means, for each individual seat, there is a specific winner. That is completely different than the parliamentary systems used throughout most of the world.

If we had a parliamentary system, the State of New York would hold a single election for its contingent of Representatives for Congress. Its 27 house seats would be divided among the parties by percent. A 61 Dem/37 Rep/2 Constitution Party split would give the Democrats 17 seats and the Republicans 10 seats.

But, if the Constitution Party were to raise its profile and move the needle to a 60Dem/36Rep/4Con split in the next election, then even with a paltry 4% of the election, the Constitution Party would have a member of Congress.

But that would require a complete overhaul of the system. As it is now, a third party in the American system can only play spoiler.

It’s very true that the “Tea Party” needs to become a bit more polished than it is. The days of just chucking together something in hopes of “scaring” D.C. are about over.

Everyone with a website and a letterhead is now a tea party group, and everyone thinks they are a leader. Then we act indignant when some candidate that is pumped up on talk radio and FR cant get traction and blame it on “RINOs” and somehow insinuate that they really aren’t tea party candidates, because if they were they would have already won or something.

That’s how movements die off, because there isnt an official organization behind it. Just noise for the sake of it. Unlike UKIP, which is a real political party, that is wining real elections.

No, UKIP was the only main party that opposed Gay Marriage which the so called conservative government pushed through.

England has lots of parties. My favourite is the Monster Raving Loony Party -

Founded in the 60’s by a pop singer called Screaming Lord Sutch, IIRC.

The UKIP will show Europeans that the Brits are fed up. Nigel, good luck...and now tell the Tories to fight the Muslims and Sharia law.

Third parties don’t work.

They don't work in our system. In a Parliamentary form of government, they can be quite effective.

Beg to differ. Look what it did to Britain. Our system is better; if only people would get back to fundamentals.

It looks like they will place first in the European Parliament elections, where their performance is always strongest. Seats are awarded proportionally. That’s terrific.

Unfortunately it doesn’t mean much for the next Westminster election, where they could place third ahead of the Lib Dems yet win very few or even zero seats. Their rise in the polls makes me think that maybe I should’ve wanted that instant-runoff voting thing to pass.

They have a line on one seat at least

A recent poll taken in the Lib Dem held seat of Eastleigh (which had a special election last year where UKIP beat out the Tories for 2nd and the Lib Dem won with a paltry 32%) shows:

UKIP 32% CON 28% Lib 27% Lab 12%

The shake-up will be good for them.

Hopefully they can shake up domestic politics too
