Clay Aiken Just Won the Democratic Primary… Because His Opponent Died

A hotly contested Democratic congressional primary in North Carolina ended in a standoff last week when the race between former American Idol contestant Clay Aiken and Asheboro businessman Keith Crisco resulted in a draw. With just 369 votes separating the two candidates, the race was slated to head to a runoff. On Monday, however, it was confirmed that Crisco suddenly passed away.

“Information is incomplete,” the Asheboro Courier-Tribune reported on Monday. “However, early information indicates he suffered injuries from a fall around 1 p.m. at his home at 1263 Thayer Drive in Asheboro. He was reported dead at the scene when emergency workers arrived there.”

Both candidates were awaiting word from state officials before proceeding with the next stage of their candidacy. As the last remaining candidate in the race, Aiken will likely face Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) in the fall.

UPDATE: Aiken posted a comment to his Facebook page where he called for prayers for Crisco’s family and friends. “I am stunned and deeply saddened by Keith Crisco’s death,” he wrote. “Keith came from humble beginnings. No matter how high he rose – to Harvard, to the White House and to the Governor’s Cabinet – he never forgot where he came from.”

In light of recent developments, the former Idol contestant said that he will temporarily suspend campaign-related activities.

Guessing that Crisco’s health will be a factor in the runoff.

Brad Crone, a political strategist and longtime friend of Crisco’s, said he had
just spoken to Crisco Monday morning. They were finalizing plans to announce on
Tuesday morning that he would concede the election to Clay Aiken.

Still entirely possible that Aiken is being groomed, and is getting help to fast track him for HILLARY’S RUNNING MATE. Let’s see, a FEMINIST and a FRUITCAKE.. Something most American females can REALLY get behind!! Ain’t nothing gonna beat a Feminist and her Fruitcake running mate, because America is sick. The enemy of America in 2012 and 2016 is the female voter. Watch it happen again. Sick.

We had a congressman elected to congress a month after his death here in Northern California.

From Wikipedia
Miller was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-sixth and Eighty-seventh Congresses. Rep. Miller authored the legislation that established Point Reyes National Seashore. He served in Congress from January 3, 1959, until his death in an airplane accident near Eureka, California, October 7, 1962.

Miller was elected posthumously to the Eighty-eighth Congress.

Does anyone have an idea whether Aiken has a chance of beating the R candidate in November?

Of all the “news” stories, I see nothing about this important question.

Clay Aiken will win the Democrat primary because Democrats are not capable of employing reason and critical thought to determine if a person is qualified for a particular office. Instead, they rely solely on emotion combined with a barbaric desire for power over others. At least this time, Jim Clyburn won’t embarrass himself by voting for the black guy.

"Uh, I know you two had absolutely nothing to do with the death which was completely accidental...but just ONE more question..."

There isn’t gonna be a runoff and wouldn’t have been even if this guy had not died. In NC there is a runoff if no candidate gets 40%.

Aiken was just above 40% and a few hundred votes ahead of dead guy, unless dead guy was gonna ask for a recount that succeeded in either putting Aiken under 40% or in putting dead guy over Aiken, then Aiken was gonna be the nominee.

It’s all irrelevant since this seat should be safe for the GOP. Dead guy would have had a better chance than Nancy boy though.
