The results of Tuesday's Republican Senate primary in Nebraska will say little about GOP prospects in Novemberthe party is heavily favored to win the seatbut a lot about whether Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell gains an ally in his testy relationship with the tea party.
Of the top candidates, university president Ben Sasse has aired TV ads blasting Mr. McConnell and has trumpeted the endorsement of Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas), who has helped lead tea party-aligned insurgents in Congress in trying to push GOP leaders to the right. Mr. Sasse also has endorsements from Cruz allies, among them Sen. Mike Lee (R., Utah) and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and from the anti-establishment groups Club for Growth and Senate Conservatives Fund.
The two other top candidates, former state Treasurer Shane Osborn and Omaha banker Sid Dinsdale, have pledged their support to Mr. McConnell. The Senate GOP leader officially is neutral in the race, but a super PAC tied to former aides to Mr. McConnell has aired ads attacking Mr. Sasse.
Mr. Sasse has emerged as the front-runner in a race that has turned more on style and authenticity than substance.
Mr. Dinsdale, a multimillionaire who built his campaign around the idea that he is an authentic Nebraskan, hopes to reprise the primary election outcome of 2012, when the ultimate winner came from behind in the campaign's final week as the two front-runners attacked each other.

And go Shannon!!!
Sasse should be the next Senator of Nebraska.
I'm on my way to vote now. WV should send you another R senator next fall. Shelley Capito is high profile in WV, having been a congresswoman for ages. I'm excited to go vote for our state Delegate who is also our T. Party leader. He won the last time and has been a real fighter for the people against the dem machine in Charleston. He's also a Marine. Go Jim!
I think Shelley Capito will actually be more conservative than half the RINOs in the senate.
