Moscow is banning Washington from using Russian-made rocket engines, which the US has used to deliver its military satellites into orbit, said Russia’s Deputy PM, Dmitry Rogozin, who is in charge of space and defense industries.

According to Rogozin, Russia is also halting the operation of all American GPS stations on its territory from June 1.

This is positive in two ways.

1) The most modest of sanctions are hurting the Russian economy, especially the pullout of investment.

2) Long term, we now know we are dealing with ColdWar Russia again, so this silly reliance on them for anything will be done away with.

The new, upgraded GLONASS system is now fully operational. Russia doesn’t need to rely on the U.S.-controlled GPS system any longer.

This is one of the things Putin has been spending big money to upgrade. And the Russian GPS-Spoofing tech is supposed to be a lot more advanced now than just a few years ago, thanks to Chinese tech help.

Your Smartphone likely has the capability to use GLONASS.

Well about 20 years ago Pratt & Whitney spent a lot of money trying to copy the Russian engine design for the RD-180.

They finally gave up.

So....here we are...

Add to this the new gas deal with China.

Putin is probably saying “Sanctions? What sanctions?”

Add to this what Merkel and Hollande REALLY want: a dialog with all parties involved in Ukraine BEFORE the May 25th elections.

And they want an immediate investigation into the “unlawful” attacks, specifically against Mariupol and Odessa.

Kiev and Turchynov don't like either.

“Obama Killed NASA shuttle program with no replacement in the near future! “

We don't need a space program, or an advanced biomedical capacity. What we needed was to be able to provide free condoms to people like Sandra Fluke, and to expand the number of people who are dependent upon food stamps.

It doesn’t have to be a collapse

Sadly, it does. An addict can never recover until it reaches rock bottom. Russia has already undergone its own 20+ year process of renewal.

The US federal government as currently constituted will not, and can never, be reformed. It must first collapse and be rebuilt from scratch.

Fortunately for us, we have a great working document to serve as a blueprint. All we have to do this time around is to create some kind of mechanism (better than the 10th) that ensures the states are primary.

Stupid to become dependent on the Russians in the first place.

this is good news

it points out the vapid stupidity and naivete of the US policies that led America to be reliant on Russians for these functions

Now, can we go back name names and party affiliation of the geniuses who led us down this path?

at least we found out in “peacetime”

No problem, we will just call Pratt, er, not in that business any more. Well, call General Dynamics or Martin, er, not in that business any more. Well, call Aerojet, er, well, not in that business any more. Then call Hercules, they made some I think, er, well, not interested. Call Redstone Arsenal, er, they are now a museum and finding those engineers who lost their homes during the cut backs may be a tad difficult also. Er, well, we can call ah, well, anyone consider using the blow gun approach to launching materials into space??

We haven’t had a space program for years now. We have an outreach program.

In fact GLONASS needs stations in US to function properly. US has denied their request to establish some a few months ago so a hit on GPS was a matter of time.

Can you just IMAGINE how foreign policy failures like this would be being presented to the Sheeple, if a Republican were President???

Instead, most of them will never hear about them. Too many media careers could be destroyed by making a Democrat look bad.

Obama bans construction of GLONASS (Russian GPS) stations in US without Pentagon’s approval
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3106823/posts

As a newer system (deisgned since 1980s) GLONASS has some advantages over GPS. US military could easily benefit using both systems.

Remember, the Chinese are also in preparations for a sanctions regime against them when they move against the Spartleys and Sennikku islands.

However, said sanctions will have a major destabilizing effect on the West (You can’t sanction over 2 billion people)
