McCain: Send U.S. Special Forces to Rescue Nigerian Girls

The United States should send in special forces to rescue the hundreds of girls kidnapped by Boko Haram—whether the Nigerian government gives permission or not, according to Sen. John McCain.

“If they knew where they were, I certainly would send in U.S. troops to rescue them, in a New York minute I would, without permission of the host country,” McCain told The Daily Beast Tuesday. “I wouldn’t be waiting for some kind of permission from some guy named Goodluck Jonathan,” he added, referring to the president of Nigeria.

Give them the same treatment given to Ambassador Stevens who asked for help and got nothing.

How liberal of you to introduce a non sequitur into the debate.

Oh, it goes right to the heart of the debate as both a Christian and a Conservative.

If your Christianity does not drive your politics, you are not a Christian. You cannot compartmentalize areas of your secular life and not apply your Christianity to those areas like politics.

You Christian ethics and morals either apply to 100% of your life, or your Christianity does not work, and is not authentic.

How about a special force of one named McCain!

It’s Nigeria’s concern and none of mine!

You know what, this is exactly the type of situation he would involve himself in. Why it’s for the children. Can you think of a more appealing way for him to show he cares for children, cares for Christians, and is a super-hero?

I understand why you say what you do, but I don’t know. This looks to be irresistible to me.

And I understand your points as well DO.

How ‘bout sending special forces to free our Marine from the Mexican jail?

How 'bout sending the Marines in and just taking over Mexico. We already have many of their 'citizens' living here anyway.

Are you aware of the special camps in North Korea for children and families, and the torture they undergo regularly? Thousands or tens of thousands of them, not 200 and some.

Should we invade Norkland to rescue them? If not, why not? Because the Norks have a very non-trivial military and (possibly) usable nukes?

Does that change the moral imperative or do we only bluster about making threats about invading countries that are unable to fight back effectively? Christianity on the cheap.

If such a rescue were part of a systematic effort to rid the world of Islam, I’d be all for it.

Problem is....it won’t be.

Really doesn't matter in the final analysis does it?

Either you save the girls lives or you don't.

The Cowardly, Craven Evil one in the White House has and had the power to save the lives of these girls.

He chose not to.

Thanks SoConPubbie. This will be interesting to follow. Hope we don’t hear anything more from McStain on it.

Yes I’m a Christian. That does not require me to send my son over to die for them.

Nigeria has a military, as do many other countries. If they refuse to help themselves and protect their families they are contemptible.

So Dale, do you have children?

Let's say that somebody kidnaps your children. Let's say in this hypothetical situation I have the ability to rescue them. Is the correct response by me to say, their not my children so it's not my problem?

Same question to you Dale, do you consider yourself a Christian?

It sure is a good thing that McCain didn’t win when he ran for President.

I voted for the girl.

Yes they are.

But if we have the ability to save the children, if their military is incompetent, shouldn't we help?

Or does your Christianity only extend to the borders of your country, your state, your county, or your city?

Where do you draw the line with your Christianity?

I was going to ask a similar question about line drawing, but didn't have the example you brought up. I'm sure there are a few hostage situations a year, any one of which might benefit from the use of trained use of force of violence. If the criteria for stepping in is "it's the Christian thing to do," then there is no end to the work.

There is also the point that the US is not the only country that has Christians.

But, ultimately, SoConPubbie is fully invested in his position, and discussion on the point is nothing but argument for the sake of argument. Nobody's position will be changed, and the use of US Special Forces doesn't hinge on the outcome of this thread.
