“American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken was declared the winner of his tight House Democratic primary in North Carolina on Tuesday, a day after his opponent suddenly died.

Aiken and Keith Crisco had been vying for the Democratic nomination to take on Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) She is favored to keep the seat.

Aiken was leading Crisco by fewer than 400 votes, and both candidates had been hovering around the 40-percent mark needed to avoid a runoff.

The 71-year-old Crisco died Monday after suffering from injuries from a fall. Aiken’s team said they’d received word he’d been planning to concede Tuesday.

Look for a conservative to squeak on by in the general.

I don't know. Empty celebrity goes a long way with the unthinking drones in society.

I do not think folks are going to vote. These are the midterms.

not so fast, Jim Talent lost to Mel Carnahan, who died in a plane wreck before the election and they gave the seat to Jean Carnahan.

“Beat a dead man by less than 400 votes? Wouldn’t that look great on a resume?”

Best line of the day!

I hope Aiken beats Ellmers. She is terrible.
Have a conservative win the seat in 2016.

not so fast, Jim Talent lost to Mel Carnahan,

*********

That was John Ashcroft that lost to the deceased Mel Carnahan in 2000. Jean Carnahan
was appointed until a special election in 2002. Jim Talent won the special election
in 2002 by some 22,000 votes.

No thanks. Too many homosexuals have power over us as it is. We don’t need yet another.

Well, if all demographics are down with voter participation, then why would conservatives not be as well?

Unlike the Presidential, which will draw much more interest, the midterms, the really dedicated voters will come out.

I’m not doubting you, but why would the leftist voters not be dedicated?

After eight years of President Dizzie Miss Lizzie or Princess Clinton, and the continuing fawning of celebrities in American culture, how shocking would it be if we see President Aiken some day?

...both candidates had been hovering around the 40-percent mark needed to avoid a runoff.

Kinda off the main topic, but what happens when both candidates get above 40%? They both avoid the runoff, correct?

Ellmers should probably get a thorough checkup and some professional bodyguards. Nobody expects the pink mafia.....
