Teen's tweet sets off home invasion

A teenage party announced on social media led to a frightening home invasion Saturday night.

Four men crashed the party after two high school students, aged 14 and 15, tweeted about it.

The men who showed up uninvited were initially allowed in, but when they brought out drugs, the girls quickly uninvited them, Const. Angie Butler said.

"They were angry when they were asked to leave and said they would be back," Butler said.

The men left around 11 p.m. but returned at 1:15 a.m. with handguns and forced their way into the home through the sliding patio doors.

"They took away all the girls' cellphones, threatened them and hit the boy on the head with the gun," Butler said.

The boy required 16 stitches to his head.

The six teenaged girls and boy watched in horror as the four men punched holes in walls and trashed the home before they left.

A few days later, the mother is left shaking her head at her daughter's behaviour.

"It's the evils of Twitter. It's kids being kids -- but I'll tell you, there's no more social media in my house," she said.

Butler understands the mother's concerns and said it's a good reminder for parents that they should learn how social media works so they can talk to, and monitor, their children.

As of Tuesday afternoon, two of the four 21-year-old suspects had been arrested and charged with 14 related offences, including forcible confinement, break and enter, pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon and mischief over $5,000.

Police are still looking for the other two suspects.

Several 14/15-year-old girls and a boy were partying well into the morning? And with no parents around? Forget about tweeting - the parents shouldn't have allowed the unsupervised party in the first place.

Regards,

“..the parents shouldn’t have allowed the unsupervised party in the first place.”

You’re assuming the parents allowed the party. They may not have been aware of it, or am I missing something?

About 40 years ago keg parties out in the county were a big thing with the high school kids. My partner and I were patrolling the nth end of the county and were sitting blacked out looking for spot lighters (deer hunting at night). From the south came a string of car lights and they just kept coming, must have been 40 to 50 vehicles. They all turned west onto a section of land that was owned by a local veterinarian. More and more cars started straggling in so I called a couple of unit’s in to come in from the south. When the other deputies got close we moved in and followed the tail lights to the party area. Well I missed a turn and ended up taking us across a field that had been terraced. We hit the gas and bounced them old Crown Vic’s all the way to the far corner. When we pulled up you could see the kid’s laughing at who they thought were their buddies driving across the field, when we hit the overheads they scattered like quail. It was cotton fields to the nth and west so they really had no place to go and I called them back over my PA system. When we gathered them up we had 127 high school kids, 2 kegs of beer several bottles of wine and liquor and two bags of pot. We had the entire senior football team, 6 of the 8 cheerleaders and many of the band members and a few more.

Now we had to figure out what to do with them so I called in and woke up the Sheriff, he was there in 20 minutes. A master plan was made and each of the kids were asked for their parents phone numbers and we started calling. In about 20 minutes they started showing up and had to walk past the beer, the liquor and the pot to get to their kid’s. Never in my life have I seen so many mad Momma’s and kid’s getting their arses reamed. It was amusing and no charges were filed except for the 21 year old brother of one of the kid’s, he left a deposit for the keg’s he purchased. It was a long night and we had a good laugh. That laugh ended 13 years later when I got a call from the SO to go pick my daughter up in a caliche pit about 5 miles nth of Coahoma TX. As her mom and I walked past about 20 cases of beer, wine, whiskey, pot and two bags of mushrooms I could feel the heat building from behind me. My wife’s eyes were glowing red and the eruption was eminent. When I shined the flashlight on my daughter my wife went in like a pitbull. The azz chewing she deliver all the way back to the house, was delivered with such style and grace, she was awarded both ear’s and tail.

Here in NJ underage kids caught with alcohol have their drivers licenses delayed (even if there is no vehicle involved); a good idea, but a bit late: kids party with pills now instead of booze.

40 years ago, we would have told the police to take a hike. The drinking age was 18. Most high school seniors were legal. I don’t recall police ever caring about parties.

At least 6 kids, 14 and 15 years old, partying at least from 11pm to 1am, with no adults anywhere?

“I don’t recall police ever caring about parties.”

Responding to motor vehicle accidents involving drunken teens is not something any of us enjoy, if I can stop it before it happens I will.

LOL! 99.99% of all parties I attended as a teen were NOT allowed by parents. Heck, I threw a couple of my own.

14-15 years old is a bit young for that sort of mischief though. Usually 17 is about the age kids start trashing and disrespecting their parents houses around here.

I'm glad the kids appear to have come through it without too much harm. Hopefully they have learned from their experience about social media, respect for property, respect for parents, and respect for themselves.

Parents probably went out of town or something for the night and trusted their 15 year old to stay home alone. Probably even told her she could have a friend or two over. It's a mistake parents have been making for a long time.

As I read Dusty's story a few posts back, I thought about the movie "Dazed and Confused" which would have been set in the same time-frame. Parents are heading out of town leaving their kid in charge of the house. Unfortunately the keg delivery guy shows up early before the parents leave.
