A former employee of Magic Johnson says the basketball legend fired her for being seven minutes late to work — a delay she blames on his request for a turkey sandwich.

Lanita Thomas filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court this week saying her dismissal over tardiness was actually a “pretext” for ageism. She is 45 years old.

Again, I don't know how this played out in court, but since the media is apparently treating Magic Johnson as the untouchable holy one...as if he is above criticism.

Lanita Thomas might beg to differ.

I wanna puke when I hear “Legend” attached to these fat-cat players. What’s so magical about being taller than the basket.

At one point, he was one of the three best players in the NBA, for maybe a decade. In a knock-out, drag-out game....other than Larry Bird....this was the guy you wanted in the last ten minutes of a game when it really mattered. Time may have passed, and I won’t say Magic has any real executive or management skills...but he did know how to play basketball before this era of wannabe players.

If I could choose one player of all-time to start an NBA team, it would be Magic Johnson.

To the point of the article, it’s his jet and he is entitled to hire and fire for whatever reason he wishes.

“[Johnson] directed Ms. Thomas to regularly squeeze his Red Vines to make sure they were soft and ready to eat.”

So that’s what it’s being called now...the much-maligned chicken is off the hook.

When boys grow into physical maturity playing games and getting paid millions to do it, they essentially remain boys - without the innocence. There are, of course, some fine men among professional sports but even the most ardent fan needs a moment to think of one or two. The thugs and maturation retarded seem to be the rule. Spending precious time following who chased the ball the best is beyond me; I’ve got stuff to do.

I can’t stand Magic. I’m a big Michigan State University fan and remember their 1979 championship. For most of my life he was a big hero.

Then he started pushing obamacare. He obviously knows nothing about it but he says he has to stick up for obama due to race(!). What a fool.

I think magic should lose all of his comanies due to age discrimination—worse than racial discrimination that got sterling in trrouble!

Magic Johnson? I seem to remember something about him and thug ball.... Oh ya, wasn’t he the thug ball player that got aids from dipping his johnson (or having someone else dip their johnson) where it wasn’t supposed to be?

Since he got aids I guess his johnson wasn’t so magic after all.

All true, but he has been on an intensive image-rehab campaign since his initial retirement with, as usual, the willing help of the lefty press.

He’s never provided an adequate explanation for his HIV status short of giving it the aw-shucks-we-were-jocks wink and nod routine.

Karl Malone got a very early taste of what it’s like to point out some common-sense concerns about HIV transmission and/or the dearth of contemporary medical research in the area. Suddenly he was Lucifer subverting the redemption tale and the press attacked him accordingly.

He is a figurehead and a token on a par with Barack Obama yet we are constantly informed he is a ‘businessman.’ If Johnson is a businessman then I’m a 747 captain because I occasionally walk through an airport.

It’s hilarious on one level because these people’s egos need constant feeding. Johnson fancies himself the hand that will still the waters of race and basketball and that, as with Obama and the Clintons, his sordid past is somehow off-limits.

Now....Sterling is hardly the perfect vehicle for such contrary views but, through accident or design, he has pointed out some home truths about Johnson, with the press again kicking into high gear to defend their smiling ambassador.

His jet, his rules. Wonder what her employment contact says. If it says she can be let go without cause, she doesn’t have a legal leg to stand on. Even without that (fairly routine) contact language she is going to have a very tough time proving beyond reasonable doubt what his motivations were. She probably filed the suit hoping for a quick and quiet settlement (legal shakedown) and he decided to call her bluff.

“...but he did know how to play basketball.”

Definitely legend material there.

Magic Johnson is the Magic Negro. . . . #2. Zero is #1.

Yeah! Personally, if I could afford a personal jet with flt attendants and such I would cut’em loose at age 25 - perhaps making an exception for special talents or some such, lol :)

I'm not a fan of "discrimination" laws. It's his plane, if he wants to have his stewardesses all be 18 year old blond cheerleaders, that should be his business.

I do not care for Magic Johnson and if the story is true, he is a bit of a heel, but it is his jet and he can hire or fire who he wants I would think.
