Sal Russo of the Tea Party Express broke the news in an op-ed titled Conservatives Need to Fix the Broken Immigration System, published by CQ Roll Call early Wednesday morning.
In that piece, the longtime GOP operative and consultant argued that conservatives should be at the forefront of reform so the law reflects the just interests of the United States, not misty-eyed ideals of some of the liberal do-gooder reformers.
That means no special pathways to citizenship that allow undocumented immigrants to cut in line, Russo cautioned, but rather some reasonable procedures that require the 11 million people who are here illegally obey the law, pay taxes and come out of the shadows.
We have to get them right by the law in exchange for legal status, but not unbridled amnesty, Russo wrote. This should include penalties, background checks to root out criminals, and the requirement that they learn English, understand the Constitution and be committed to our basic freedoms.
A source familiar with the rationale behind Russos decision to make public his support for an overhaul told CQ Roll Call that Russo was urged to speak out by the Partnership for a New American Economy.
The coalition of 500 Republican, Democratic and independent mayors and business leaders united in making the economic case for streamlining, modernizing, and rationalizing our immigration system will compliment the rollout of Russos op-ed with a Wednesday afternoon conference call, the first in a monthly series of such calls focused on the need to fix the broken immigration system.
The calls will be moderated by Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, and Russo will be among the first slate of guests.

Watch for more of this as opportunists, leftists and Dem undercover activists will co-opt and infiltrate and "use" the Tea Party name for their own purposes.
They've taken over and control just about everything else in this country. The "Tea Party" name is a nice piece of ripe fruit dangling in front of the leftists' eyes. Watch them start plucking it in every way possible this summer just to confuse and demoralize Tea Party supporters across the country.
We have to remain vigilant, especially on conservative forums.
The same bunch tried to seize control of freedomwatch too but were defeated.
I thought Freeper Syncro is Sal Russo. Yes? No?
If so, please explain how you believe it will/could actually happen.
If not, what would be a workable solution that might actually (in reality vs. one's dreams) be implemented?
In a sane world. A common sense world would start with closing the borders, shutting off the welfare spigot and penalizing employers who hire the illegal invaders. But ANY immigration bill will be stripped in conference and be stuffed with blanket amnesty.
Immigration Overhaul = Enforce it
This whole idea devalues citizenship in the United States and is driven by a bunch of what the late Col Robert McCormick of the Chicago Tribune would call “One Worlders”. There is never any mention of an American citizens rights in foreign countries particularly Mexico.
This regime can’t even protect its ambassadors never mind sticking up for Americans operating in foreign countries by applying the same restrictions to foreigners from those countries put on Americans. With what’s known as reciprocity to foreigners from those countries who are operating here worse yet illegally.
This article with it’s added (Teams w/ Grover Norquist) is an attempt to smear Sal Russo, the Tea Party Express and the Tea Party Movement in general.
Exactly what this thread wants you to think.

Rand Paul's immigration speech...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reformLatinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...[Posted on 04/21/2013 1:52:42 PM PDT by SoConPubbie]
[but he's not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
Appears Russo fell for Leftist sources tricks, and has now soiled the credibility of the TEA Party movement by announcing what they advocate.
Reform is BS. We have laws that work if enforced.
This guy should be left on the side of the road to the next rally
After this 11 million become Democrat Party supporters and voters, what will we do with the next 11 million?
Interestingly, many of the next wave might be anti-communists fleeing from communist governments in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and of course, Venezuela.
Don’t think that Obama and Holder will let this group in.
“As Mr. Wilson speaks, Mr. Bush is headlining a fund-raiser for Mr. Simon just down the street — to which Mr. Wilson wasn’t invited. “We have to turn the page,” says Simon campaign strategist Sal Russo.”
Russo ignored immigration in 2002 Gov race.
