Tea Party Roars Back, All Eyes Now Turn to Mississippi
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | May 14, 2014 | Michael Patrick Leahy

Posted on 05/14/2014 7:04:40 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The Tea Party, left for dead by the mainstream media only a week ago, roared back to life on Tuesday with two big Republican primary victories in Nebraska and West Virginia.

All eyes now turn to Mississippi's June 3 Republican U.S. Senate primary between establishment incumbent Thad Cochran (R-MS) and Tea Party-backed state senator Chris McDaniel as the next big test of the Tea Party's ability to win elections.

In Nebraska, the Republican U.S. Senate primary race that many thought had tightened into a three way race turned into a romp for Tea Party-backed Ben Sasse, who easily won with 49 percent of the vote. Millionaire banker Sid Dinsdale finished a distant second with 22 percent, and Shane Osborn, who was backed by Mitch McConnell, John McCain, and Lindsey Graham and spurned by all the national Tea Party groups though supported by local Tea Party activists, finished a surprisingly non-competitive third with 21 percent of the vote.

In West Virginia's 2nd Congressional District, Tea Party-backed Alex Mooney coasted to victory in a crowded field of seven. Mooney won 36 percent of the vote, defeating second place finisher Ken Reed who trailed with 22 percent....

Ben Sasse — leading candidate for U.S. Senate in Nebraska — appears to be a fraud, and we know this thanks to one of his own deep-pocketed donors, Mike Simmonds.

Mr. Simmonds is a Republican businessman who built his wealth in franchised fast food. He has been a regular fixture on the campaign money-trail in Nebraska elections for many years. He is quite wealthy, and is known for a willingness to part with a bunch of that wealth to further the political careers of candidates who share his views.

Consequently, nearly every candidate for office in Nebraska makes a stop at Mike Simmonds’ door at one time or another. One such solicitation resulted in an email from Mr. Simmonds that established some pretty clear ground rules for seeking his support in this election cycle.

In the email, Mr. Simmonds declares he will employ a litmus test for any candidate in this election cycle. To gain his contribution, a candidate would have to support “complete amnesty” for every illegal immigrant in the U.S.

He also noted that this test might preclude him from supporting any candidate at all, but indicated clearly that this requirement was non-negotiable.

Chris Scott, from the Political Insider’s Report in Omaha uncovered this email as part of his investigation into a subject about which I have written previously here at the Daily Caller – when the citizens of Fremont Nebraska successfully fought against their own city leaders and elected representatives to uphold an ordinance barring landlords from knowingly renting to illegal immigrants, and sanctioning employers for hiring them.

The City of Fremont, along with the local Chamber of Commerce and Midland University, fought tooth and nail to thwart the will of Fremont’s citizens, attacking the ordinance, both in court and through two special elections. This is the same Midland University that boasts Ben Sasse as its President.

Midland University, represented by Ben Sasse’s second-in-command while Ben launched his campaign for Senate, schemed with City Council members, the Mayor and the Chamber of Commerce on how to overturn the results of the special election that had put the ordinance in place.

Time will tell.

I’m willing to support him, considering the endorsements he received from Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz and Mark Levin, among others. Reading comments from articles in NE, it doesn’t look like any of his opponents were better choices.

Like I said...time will tell, just like it does with ALL elected reps. I’m supporting Sasse.

Yeah. What happened to DC? They had a pretty good start, then went downhill from there.

Chicago Lady, I’m sorry but you are INCREDIBLY gullible. You’ve linked to a “hit piece” published this past Monday (the day before the Nebraska primary) by the Daily Caller (which belongs to Tucker Carlson, the GOP establishment fanboy). The hit piece was written by Joe Herring in a display of the desperation the GOPe RINO establishment was feeling leading up to the Nebraska primary. See the following tweet (Joe Herring @readmorejoe) that Joe Herring sent out BEGGING that folks retransmit (RT) his tweet which linked his the article.

Joe Herring’s tweet on 5/12/2014:

“Ben Sasse’s Amnesty Double-Dealing http://dailycaller.com/2014/05/12/ben-sasses-amnesty-double-dealing/ … via @dailycaller My Latest. Please RT, Primary is TOMORROW!”

Their desperate ploy failed miserably and Ben Sasse won in a landslide, crushing the GOPe’s hopes.

Immigration overhaul does NOT equate to amnesty. We’ve always had immigration. An overhaul means bringing in producers and filtering out/deporting the moochers. Or do you prefer the status quo?

ChacagoLady, as bad as you may think the immigration or illegal immigration thing is, it is NOTHING compared to the silent but deadly coup d'état underway by the unconstitutional $4 trillion federal government. The Left would love the Right to continue bickering about immigration until the cows came home because that's not the real issue at stake here.

If you think illegal immigrants are your enemies, you ain't seen nothing like the Collectivist government they're in the process of establishing. Your freedoms, the way of life you take for granted, your very life is threatened not by illegals, but by this monstrous government. If the Right doesn't get united and focused on this huge issue to take down this government, it will take us down. If you don't get this, then you are unwittingly part of the problem, a tool in the Leftists and MSM's hands.

The article at Chicago Lady's link has more holes than Swiss cheese with conditional phrases, innuendo, guilt-by-association, etc.
Even with that, it's interesting that she pasted from it just short of this section:

Which brings us to Ben’s apparent lie.

Sasse, according to his website, and numerous speeches and interviews, is dead-set against amnesty for illegal immigrants. He even suggested building a wall on the border, Israel-style, saying about the problem of illegal immigration, “This isn’t rocket science.”

There's no direct quote showing a contradiction in Sasse's own statements; only alleged words and actions of others.

You are delusional!

So let's get this straight: you come here and piss all over Sasse - why? Is it because you preferred the other establishment candidates running against him?

He's good enough for Palin and Cruz, but just not good enough for you, is that it?

I suppose you think they are delusional in your politico-perfectionist world too.

Whoever the new Illinois RINOs are, they are irrelevant on a thread cheering what is hoped will be Tea Party victory in MS like the race that occurred in Nebraska.

Amnesty opposition is important but you are being a "johnny one note" in the wrong venue. Go find a thread where amnesty opposition is the subject of the thread and pound away.

The rest of us intend to plan for and to celebrate a Tea Party victory over here.

The first opportunity has not yet even occurred. Actually the first opportunity was to take out John Cornyn in Texas on March 4. He took 59% of the vote. It will be May 20th in Kentucky. The last two polls show McConnell leading Bevin 51% to 34% and 57% to 25%. Not likely a candidate for taking out a sitting senator. Then May 27th in the Texas runoff. There is no senate runoff. See above. Cornyn got 57% of the vote. Then June 3rd in Mississippi. Thad Cochran has raised $2.4 million through March 31 to Chris McDaniels $962K. Last poll has Thad leading 48 to 31%. Not a race I would bank on. From Ballotpedia: “Chris McDaniel received negative media attention from the Mississippi Conservatives PAC. According to the PAC, McDaniel is hypocritical and has tried to take both sides on many issues, including tort reform, Common Core and earmarks” Then June 10th in South Carolina and Maine. Lindsay is polling at 50% over several candidates. He does have to get 50 to avoid a runoff, but I don't see him losing a runoff. Susan (My Senator) does not have an opponent on the primary ballot. There is a wack job running a write in campaign after falling to get any signatures to get on the ballot. His main campaign theme is that he has been persecuted by the system after being convicted of domestic violence against his wife. 99% of the voters don't even know he is waging said write in campaign. The 1% know he is crazy. Case closed.

Oddly, there are some among us on FR who look at sack cloth and ashes as some kind of fashion statement, and garb in which they appear to be most comfortable.

Hate to spoil their defeatist fun, but most of us just don't choose to shop where they do.

Freegards!

Was your post directed at me? If so, aren't you a bit trigger happy there Agamemmon?

Why don't you try reading the thread before blasting away? My first comments we only about cheering for the Tea Party. My other comment was in response to another fireball because she apparently thinks you're delusional if you're for the Tea Party because of their immigration stand.
