“While the voice of every Republican should be heard, our challenge is to figure out how to be a conservative party, without allowing the most extreme voices of the day to control our party and determine its future direction.”
That was former Virginia Lt. Governor Bill Bolling in the pages of the Washington Post responding to the election of Fred Gruber to head up Virginia’s 7th Congressional District Republican Committee. Bolling called the result “extremely disappointing.”
So, what was it about Gruber that compelled Bolling to refer to him as one of the “most extreme voices” in the Republican Party?
Judging from Gruber’s rather mundane campaign website, it is somewhat hard to say. His biography does state that “Fred believes our Party is on the wrong track, and has been an outspoken advocate for the need to reform.”
Okay, so he’s not an establishment guy, and is not supportive of the current Republican majority in the House, thinks we’re spending too much, and the like.
But so what? Isn’t there room in the Virginia Republican Party for activists like Gruber, who heads the Louisa, Virginia Tea Party and otherwise has spent his career as a financial analyst?
Otherwise, Gruber ran on a rather innocuous platform “to bring in new activists from the Tea Party, the Liberty movement, and pro-Family movement, and unite them with traditional Republicans to build a stronger GOP toward winning elections in our state and nationally.”
Frankly, that’s all pretty standard boilerplate as far as Republican politics goes.
Then again, Bolling’s frustration may have had nothing to do with Gruber’s political beliefs, and everything to do with Gruber’s support of Dave Brat to oppose House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) in the upcoming June 10 primary.

I’d like someone to explain to me what’s so “wonderful” about being an establishment, moderate, “acceptable” Republican. I mean if a voter truly wants liberalism, won’t he vote for the Democrat no matter how liberal the Republican is? And why should any Democrat or liberal Republican politician hold any appeal for a conservative voter? And if one is a liberal Republican, what does he not like about the Democrats? Point being, liberal-moderate Republicanism makes little sense to me.
Basically, what is being said is that conservativism is “extremism”...

Absolutely. One is either conservative, or not. But then again, I have been accused of seeing everything as either black or white, which is what it is.
Liberty and personal responsibility or not. By the constitution or not.

Not to mention, where among the voting populace does the idiotic GOP leadership and its equally moronic consultants think there’s this overwhelming demand for more establishment, moderate candidates who don’t take a single principled stand for anything???
Why, oh why do We, the People have any compelling reasons to vote for any Doormat Republicans, or Obama Democrats who have promised to advance Obama’s Agenda to “Fundamentally transform the United States of America” by increasing the number of undocumented Democrat voters who are Illegal Alien Invaders from Mexico?
We, the People have seen our Federal Politicians in the Republican and Democrat Party enable Obama, for over five years, to bring great harm to the United States of America.
Those, in “both” political parties, who can’t stand America, stand against We, the People.
We, the People know that it is time, - - - time for a change in 2014.

These so called “moderate, establishment” voters are figments in the imaginations of liberal journalists who manage to con the GOP establishment into thinking these voters really do exist. And the GOP establishment keeps falling for this con over and over again, since at least 1940.
I recommend Phyllis Schlafly’s classic 1964 conservative book “A Choice Not An Echo”. It goes into this issue in detail.
