Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki will testify Thursday for the first time since a burgeoning scandal broke on allegedly deadly health care delays in the VA system, as he faces calls for his resignation and demands that the VA immediately improve the way it treats America's vets.

According to prepared remarks, Shinseki will say the alleged problems in the system are unacceptable and if substantiated he will take “responsible and timely action” to remedy the situation.

“I am personally angered and saddened by any adverse consequence that a veteran might experience while in, or as a result of, our care,” he plans to say.

Am listening. Just found your thread
Lots of calls for actions on the investigations already done.
Systemic problems. Swift action on fundamental changes

Going to be interesting what the secretary comes up with!

The chair did indicate at the beginning that this would be a long hearing.

This hearing is slightly different format than most hearings lately which have been a statement from chair and then prepared remarks of testimony.

In this hearing the chair made a statement, then several congress members are making a statement before the guest.

I feel the real issue is where does the pressure come from that makes these low level workers feel that they have to “cook the books” to look better? Is this an example of if you don’t satisfy certain requirements or meet certain criteria you could lose funding for the following year?

These people did not come up with these “gaming” techniques because they hate veterans rather they are being led in this direction. From who?

where did the pressure come from in the IRS scandal?

The pressure to provide service in the 14 day window must have come from a policy.

I agree on both. We are starting to see where the IRS directives came from.

I’m betting we will see trails similar in this case at some point that initiated the need to do this. We have families whose lives have been forever changed by these decisions and “Administration Leave” is not appropriate action.

From the Washington Post 5-May-2014:

The White House indicated Monday that President Obama will stand behind the VA chief, noting in a statement that the VA’s inspector general is investigating the alleged problems.

“The president remains confident in Secretary Shinseki’s ability to lead the department and to take appropriate action based on the IG’s findings,” the White House said in a statement.

America, meet the only General that Obama has "confidence" in. The rest he's sacked over trumped up claims of booze, or gambling, or women.

Shinseki is nothing but a political lap dog for Obama. For goodness sake...Shinseki is totally lost at sea...he has no idea waht he is doing and.....Obama the lie teller could care less about our veterans!!! Both these poor excuses for human beings need to be tossed into the trash can of obscurity for eternity!!!

Veterans Admin is what we will see in Obamacare - hopefully people will begin to see that.

so far this has been the “No Accountability” administration - this needs to change

Wow, that’s right. I hadn’t put the two together but you are right. Government run health care is the same regardless if it is for veterans or for civilians.

They cave and are controlled by union thugs. Is it the same union for its and veteran hospital ?

Time to hold unions accountable — break the unions!

In the video below Betsy urges congress to take action and has a one page fix to Obamacare (amendment) to create another category - red white & blue plan - no deductible - no payment.

Vets deserve ability to go to other medical facilities.

The real issue is that Obamacare needs to go and have heard Betsy say that, but here she is trying to give a way for parties to work together to alleviate the VA issues quickly.

It is obvious for all to see that the Democrats are stalling Veterans to use the money to buy votes.

Mr. Blake made a good point about specialized care for veterans that would not be available in the private sector.

Sen Mike Johanns says that veterans should be able to go to a private doctor and the govt pay for it if they have to wait more than 2 weeks for the VA...

good luck with that...

it use to be called fee based care and it still had a waiting time of months..

BTW Obama did away with fee based care...

we cant go to the private doctors and hospitals any more...
