Nevada Senator Harry Reid spoke on the Senate floor to mark 321 days since the Senate passed a bipartisan immigration reform bill and call on House Republicans to do their part in mending the nations broken immigration system. Below are his remarks as prepared for delivery:
This morning marks 321 days since the Senate passed a bipartisan, commonsense immigration reform bill. For 321 days, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives has done absolutely nothing to address our nations broken immigration system. And to the extremists in the House, the time went by just like that. So to House Republicans, 321 days doesnt seem like a big deal. Outside of the Capitol, though, those 321 days have felt like a lifetime. To families forced to live in the shadows, each of those days brings the dread of discovery and being torn away from their loved ones. Undocumented immigrants have lived in fear for the last 46 weeks, worrying that they will have to leave the country they call home. For the last 10 ½ months, children have lost their parents to deportations, all while House Republicans have twiddled their thumbs. I say enough is enough. Its time for House Republicans to act. They have wasted far too much time already failing to consider a bill that the Senate considered and passed in less than two months.
A year ago the Senate Judiciary Committee was in the middle of marking up the commonsense immigration reform bill. After 2 weeks of serious debate and deliberation under the leadership of Chairman Leahy, and many votes on both Democrat and Republican amendments, the bill was reported out of committee. Within a month, the Senate passed this immigration reform bill and sent it to the House of Representatives.
Here's the bottom of Reid's page.
Is he gloating? It doesn’t come close to his record number of days without a budget.
Just have your lackey Neil Kornze send BLM Special Agent Love and his SWAT team to secure the border against trespass.
these undocumented Demonuts are required for November
We have existing laws in place. No need for new laws, we need only to enforce the laws we have.
Build the fence. Enforce the laws. Let the chips fall.
Lighten up Harry. Don’t you have some cows to rustle or something? Geeesh. You’re an old man. You need to grow up.
Our immigration laws don’t need reformed. They need to be enforced.
Is anyone forced to sneak across the border and live here "in the shadows"? I understand it is nice, sunny and shadow free back home.
321! AWESOME! Our side rocks!
Why, oh why do We, the People have any compelling reasons to vote for any Doormat Republicans, or Obama Democrats who have promised to advance Obamas Agenda to Fundamentally transform the United States of America by increasing the number of undocumented Democrat voters who are Illegal Alien Invaders from Mexico?
All Doormat Boehner has tio do is not bring his Boehner Amnesty Bill in the House up for a vote and Reid’s Senate Amnesty bill dies a well-deserved death.
We, the People have seen our Federal Politicians in the Republican and Democrat Party enable Obama, for over five years, to bring great harm to the United States of America.
Those, in both political parties, who cant stand America, stand against We, the People.
We, the People know that it is time, - - - time for a change in 2014.
Oh boo hop.....how many days since a budget was passed???
Rand Paul's immigration speech...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reformLatinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...[Posted on 04/21/2013 1:52:42 PM PDT by SoConPubbie]
[but he's not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
What part of Illegals don't you understand? Of someone who crossed the border without documents, he is a criminal.
Of course, Harry is the leader of the CRIMINAL CLASS!!!
It ain’t broke; it’s disabled on purpose, from within.
Enforce, of course1
