OPEC Secretary-General Abdalla el-Badri said oil supplies from North America will play an important role in the coming few years, but he cast doubt on their sustainability over the long term.
Speaking May 15 in Moscow, el-Badri acknowledged that oil supply from producers outside of OPEC are expected to increase by more than 4 million barrels per day (bpd) between 2013 and 2018, with much of that coming from North America. But he cautioned that the addition of non-OPEC oil supplies to the global market should be viewed as a periodic shift."
"Tight oil adds depth and diversity to the market," he said. "But questions remain over its sustainability in the long-term."

It would work. US Forest Service employees have been caught doing things like that.
The Swiss tried that some years ago. They designated a field where anyone could take any drugs. All was free and open. It lasted for a few months.
The results? Overdoses, deaths, brain damage and V.D.s the likes that hadn't been seen since the 14th century.
The Swiss quietly closed it down and sent the children morons FOOLS folks home to mommy and daddy. It was declared a colossal and costly (in pain, suffering and death) failure to too many lives.
All is well now in Switzerland. No more "experiments" like that again for the Swiss. We adults are SUPPOSED to be smarter and protect our children and fellow human beings from the poisons of life. Suicide, slow or fast, IS considered a sin in Christianity.
AT LEAST we should try to help our brothers and sisters.
Mathew 25: 31-46: The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
I think that was Amsterdam, Holland you are speaking of. They gave them clean needles, condoms and in general tried to help. It did not help. Only God can alter the path that these people are on. They must ask for forgiveness and repent and stop their evil ways.
These people have decided to die, the drugs are a less swift and less painful way for them to go. It is more painful for their families and the rest of us. We all suffer from their choices in who knows how many ways.
Yes, what I think may well be unChristian, but how many more should be dragged into this cesspool unknowingly, how many more? I have seen the evil that these people do, not only to the person they help addict, intentionally, but to the families and friends of their victims.
I am sure that few agree with me but that makes little difference to me, I worry about the opinion of only one judge. I will tell you this, the vast majority of the problems that this country faces, from the government on down to us serfs are rooted in drug use. The lunatics running our country, if you could find out the truth, were and probably still are, heavy drug users. Look up two of the most murderous tyrants of the 20th century, Hitler and Stalin, and see what you find, farther back look up Alexander the Great.
Less then 10% of the people who go thru rehab can last even one year in a sober state. Two or three years I have never seen the numbers but would guess it is much lower.
Do you know why alcohol is sometimes called spirits? Look it up and get back to me.
Look up the term ‘co-dependency’ ... and study it, then you may not misuse the passage in Matthew so easily the next time.
No need to look up the term. I heard it and knew about bout 50 years ago. I still stand by St. Matthew. Are YOU an expert on St. Matthew?
===================================
The word spirits has many meanings, as you probably know, and it DOESN'T translate the same in all the languages and cultures of the planet.
I would even be willing to guess that the cultures that do drink have ALL kinds of names for the fermented fruits, hops, etc. and different names for the various states of inebriation.
I lived in the middle east for five years and THEIR interpretation of alcohol and its effects are NOT necessarily the same as yours, mine or ours of the West
There is also no rhyme nor reason why oriental Asians have such a problem with alcohol. Go ahead. Google it--it's not new.
Perhaps OPEC makes a good portion of their money from the drug trade and not from the oil as they would have us think ?
It appears that I know a lot more about human nature than you do.
I agree with you.
I see the "down and out" on our streets. They can't be helped unless they want it.
They aren't even allowed into alcohol and/or drug rehab unless they are stone cold sober.
And...sometimes they are found dead on the streets. Their choice. Poor souls.
Well, "it appears" that you know SQUAT about me.
Besides, who cares what you think? I sure don't.
He has closed off areas of Federal Land which had been leased (The Pinedale Anticline in Wy, for instance), and has hurt the industry offshore.
Large areas onshore which are predominantly private remain under development (Williston Basin--Bakken/Three Forks, Marcellus Shale, Utica Shale, etc.).
Primary impediments now will be over transportation (rail in the cross hairs), denying pipeline permits, and flared natural gas produced as a byproduct of oil production.
Ironically, the worst percentage of gas flared is on Federal Leases, where more permits are required to build gathering infrastructure to get the gas to processing facilities.
Those facilities are often at capacity, even as new expansions go on line.
Government is not the solution, it is the problem, but despite Obama's best efforts, and needing to stay at least close to the law, the industry and production have succeeded in expanding operations in the US despite the campaign to vilify oil companies.
The result has helped, especially cheaper natural gas, but there are impediments on the drawing board to slow that down as well.
If we were rid of the unconstitutional EPA, it would help a lot, especially stopping the moving target regulatory standards.
So, the OPEC nations may well be concerned, simply because Obama hasn't been able to easily shut down the industry.
Most of the folks in Exploration and Drilling tend to be very conservative, patriotic, and well paid. With the elections coming, it is possible that some stumbling block will be thrown in the way of the industry, in order to reduce the capability of people in it to make campaign donations and reduce their effectiveness politically.
But in today's political climate, having that many pissed off oil workers with little to do might not be a good idea.
