Posted on 05/16/2014 2:52:33 PM PDT by Olog-hai
Hillary Rodham Clinton pointed to the 1990s as a time of broad-based prosperity under her husband, former President Bill Clinton, contrasting it Friday with policies under Republicans that she said promoted tax cuts for the wealthy and the emergence of an entire shadow banking system.
The potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate offered her most extensive remarks on the economy since departing the State Department as the nations top diplomat, portraying her husbands two terms in the White House as a period of steady job growth and opportunity for many Americans.

Al Qaida grew while Monica blew.....
Did she recall the effect that Reagan had that carried over for them to enjoy?
Dodd-Frank/Clinton....the true root of the meltdown which happened years later.
But Hillary doesn’t recall that it was because of the historic Reagan tax-cuts which made the economy good for the 1980’s and 1990’s.
The Current FReepathon Pays For The Current Quarters Expenses?
Even Barky Obummer couldn’t have derailed the tech boom.
Fortunately for us, Clinton was more interested in getting his leg over than in being president, which meant an even more laissez-faire policy and the growth very real, bubbles notwithstanding.
As usual, Hillary is quick to claim credit for the successes of others, even her husband’s.
Hillary finally remembers something.
National Home Ownership Strategy was his as well.
And of course, the economy was so good, Bubba raised taxes across the board and on fuel to make sure the government got a bigger piece of the action and he could increase our worthless Dem social programs.
As the market tanked in 2000 Democrats were blaming then candidate Bush.
Yeh she remembers when the Republican congress forced Billy Jeff to go along with welfare reform and lower taxes which promoted prosperity.
Another “what difference does it make” moment, potentially.
If he had a Dem congress during the tech boom, he could have derailed it, especially by dumping something like Obamacare on top of it. Imagine if Hillarycare/Teddycare (single-payer) went through back then?
This is horseblank. If we’re going to have a pissing contest about economic conditions under different presidents, she needs to own up to Obama’s record in this area. Bill Clinton is ancient history. Obama is a good Democrat. Hillary is a good Democrat. She needs to talk about the most recent Democrat president, as she tries to say Democrat presidents are so good.
“Look what the3y’ve done to my song, ma!”
Whitewater, Vince Foster, thieving all that stuff from the White House, when they left, the military contractors without contracts, the GI’s had their paychecks threatened, again.
H/T Mark Levin, he says Hillary is going to run on Bill’s economy....if the GOPe runs Jeb he’ll be forced to run on George’s (which at the end was pretty bad).
Jeb will lose huge as a result.
GOPe cannot pick our candidate...we need to push a constitutional conservative now
I don’t think the economy is much of an issue anymore in deciding US elections.
Caliph Baraq was re-elected with 8% unemployment (13% real), $4 gas, surging food prices, and trillion dollar deficits forever. Something I thought impossible.
Crony capitalists to provide the $$ and entitlement army to provide the votes.
Yeah, thanks to Ronald Reagan
And Hillary was very good in the economy. I recall her turning $1,000 into $100,000 in one year buying cattle futures. Anyone who can accomplish that feat deserves to run for president.
That’s right. Democrats were blaming Bush for the economy even before he took office.
Not hard to do when you have corpses voting and living people voting more than once.
They have to exist first.
The tail end of Reaganomics for the early years and the Contract with America for the later years caused the expansion. The only good thing Bubba did was start to sign bills that the Republicans passed.
I can see your point, why would anyone vote for a loser like Barry ...
But Hillary the Retard is making it an issue.
If you know any lib retards who make it an issue, you can remind them that Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, in the midst of a sanity attack no doubt, said that her Retard party “owns the economy.” That’s an admission.
Hillaretard is implying that under her reign, the economy would be good. The Demoretards have had six years, yet have screwed the pooch: The economy sucks.
Under Democrats. Period.
If she wants to open this door, we walk right in.
But not for a Bush or anyone the GOP/Iowa anoints. If our candidate isn’t a conservative, she can say anything she wants and I won’t care.
I’m gone mini-Galt anyway.
The idiots in chief at Asspress let her get away with remembering Bill Clinton, and forgetting the current Dimprez and the current economic disaster. Then she gets to refer to nameless Republicans, certainly not those named Reagan.
Asspress never fails to amaze me.
That would qualify as an inconvenient truth.
Mostly my point.
“Like everything, the economy cycles and they hit it at a time where computers were taking over the world...a wild, creative period in our history.”
Exactly: the Clinton administration enjoyed a huge boon from techological innovations in computers, personal communications, and the entertainment industry. In addition Clinton had an enormous peace dividend because the Cold War was over.
Unfortunately, almost nothing of lasting cultural significance came out of the 1990s. It was an extremely shallow and superfluous era that will be remembered for practically zilch.
Fortunately, few people in any branch of government understood the technology therefore few wanted to regulate it, as opposed to oil, gas, etc.
Now that the internet is as common as indoor plumbing we’re getting Net Neutrality and the like.
The 1987 Tax Simplification Act destroyed my construction business and by 92 forced me to close a 57 year old business.
The 90s stunk!
The doormat let hubby schtup all over her. She isn’t fit for dog catcher.
That’s not the reason she’s unfit for dog catcher, though.
I’m two steps from going full Galt.
At least during the Nineties you could enjoy holidays without people getting hysterical over the slightest offense. It was the last really enjoyable era that could be lived without the misery we’re expecting now.
The economies of the 1990’s...was that before 0bamacare??
. . . without mentioning 1994, of course.
Yep. Hillary ignored the 1994 mid-term that put the GOP in control of Congress and the subsequent elections during Willie’s term that kept the GOP control of Congress. They held down spending and helped our economy.
Dems also continue to bash Dubya, without admitting that we increased spending because we were fighting wars; AND that the 2006 mid-term put the Dems in control of Congress with veto-proof numbers. Those last two years of Bush resulted in numerous liberal bills that significantly harmed the economy.
I still get mad about Bush never defending his policies or himself when the Dems were bashing non-stop.
Bill Clinton should be kissing Newt Gingrich’s ring.
How can this failed, no competence, brain-addled drunk recall anything? Didn’t she testify numerous times by stating “I don’t recall”? What a classless boor.
