If Israel Wants To Attack, It Better Do It This Summer
Iran Times ^ | May 16, 2014

Posted on 05/17/2014 4:14:09 AM PDT by Strategy

If Israel really wants to bomb Iran's nuclear sites, maybe it better do that in the next three months - because in September the United States will start sending Iraq F-16s to build its Air Force.

Except for some helicopters and small planes, Iraq has not had an air force since the United States buried it in 2003. Until the United States withdrew from Iraq two years ago, the US Air Force protected the skies of Iraq.

But for now, the sky is open for Israeli jets to fly back and forth over Iraq if they choose. To strike Iran, Israel would have to refuel its combat jets once along the way. A logical plan would have the combat planes suck up fuel from aerial tankers over Iraq where there is no threat. But starting in September, those tankers will be sitting ducks.

The Israelis must still whiz across Jordan. They could face a threat coming back when the Jordanians would have been alerted. But, on the other hand, Jordan might not want to object to an attack on Iran the way a Shia-led government in Iraq would feel a need to object.

Israel and Saudi Arabia reportedly have a plan In place to allow Israeli planes to overfly and refuel in Saudi airspace.

The article presupposes those Iraqi F-16’s will pose an immediate threat as soon as their pilots lay eyes on them. It will take at least a year before they become marginally proficient.

What a relief. I was worried we had stopped pouring our tax dollars down the Iraqi rathole.

Even so, they will never be really proficient in them. No Middle East Air Force with the exception of the Israelis has ever been very good. That’s not even considering the capabilities of the aircraft itself. The F-16 is pretty limited when it comes to air to air combat.

That’s an evil thought.

By the fall of 2017, Iraq will have received 36 F-16 fighters, said Mark Johnson, a spokesman for Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of the F-16

Good Grief! Why in the hell are we pouring more money into that rat hole.

We might as well just arm the iranians.

Recently there was another large “explosion” in Iran

It may be that the war of threats and words is covering the actual war in country that is containing the Iranian nuclear threat.

I wanted Israel to do it well before the 2008 election. I don’t think there is a sense of urgency on this attack, despite the catastrophic costs of the continuing delay.

Who are “we” ? Iraq has ordered F-16s, AH-64s, C-130s etc. and will pay billions for them.

Iraq is sitting upon billions of dollars of oil and can afford anything they wish. We need to become very active selling to them to recoup the money lost in that hell hole.

We better get the F16 money upfront, because Israel will be sending its best pilots, and they are very experienced world class pilots.

Israel’s pilots have trounced Syrian, Egyptian and even some Russians in the past and against newbee Iraqis, they have no chance.

All their planes will be shot down, better get the cash upfront

"I have a gut feeling those pilots are already being trained in the USA"

From the article: To date, 11 Iraqi pilots have trained to fly F-16s at Tucson, according to the Air Force. Capt. Mohammed Hama Ameen became the first Iraqi pilot to graduate Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training for the Iraqi Air Force F-16 program in March 2012. ...

Whatever our weapons companies are sending to Iraq, the Israelis know two things. For one, they know more about the F16 then anyone, including us. Two, Israel has thousands of man years experience fighting in this terrain.

Those jets are symbolic and if anything will go the way of Iran’s F14’s.

If Israel attacks Iran all hell will break loose, world markets will collapse and the United States will morph from our current contained depression into a real and protracted depression. Iran is not Iraq.

Iran will present on September 1 a new radar station capable to detect aircraft invisible to radars.

Iranian Chief of Staff of Air Defense General Farzad Ismaili said on May 17.

I know, they will have to spend at least ~$100 billion on military equipment alone within the next decade and much more on infrastructure, technology etc. I still believe Iraqi war was not a bad idea, post-war stabilization was screwed up on mid political level (no clue how to handle all those ethnic/religious divisions over there etc.) that's why it was so long and painful. Iraqis are civilized people (by Muslim standards) they have universities, thousands miles of paved roads, international airports etc. Afghanistan is a real shithole where majority of people can't even read and any attempts to build there anything resembling modern statehood are doomed to fail. No idea why US/NATO went for full scale occupation of that strange place.

I believe what you say to be true. There will be enormous cost that could bring down our dollar.

Also if Israel ever attacks, it is they who need to bear the full costs in their lives of their youth and in their standard of living, and leave the USA out of it. We’ve already frittered away about 5 trillion too much, and way too many young lives on the worthless ME and that so-called Cheney cake walk.

I have yet to see an entangling alliances that is in our benefit.

Jordan and Saudi Arabia will publicly condemn the attack. Privately they will thank Israel. Hell, the Saudis might even underwrite the cost of the attack.

I went to college with a guy who ended-up as an instructor-pilot trying to teach Iranians to fly, back when the Shah still ran things.

Said he had to learn to speak Farsi to even have a faint chance of getting anywhere.

Well, this would almost certainly be the case on the actual day of the attack; and for several days thereafter.

But what makes you suppose that it would be a protracted conflict, thereby leading (inevitably) to a protracted market correction--either in the US or worldwide?

When Israel attacks and destroys or sets back Iran’s nuke program for ten years there will be a huge sigh of relief amongst most of the world with riots from the same scum who got upset about cartoons, and the bunched up panty pillow biting crowd of Jew hating sh*t for brains scattered amongst us.

If they fail and Iran nukes tel aviv then there will be a conflagration as Israel then wipes Iran and much of the associated jihadi areas off the planet, and then the markets will indeed be roiled for a few weeks till Barry resigns when threatened with a coup for not opening keystone and starting offshore drilling immediately to pick up the oil and NG shortage with the Gulf too dangerous.

Frankly, I don’t think Israel worries much about an Iraq Air Force in combat.

It ain't gonna happen the same way it did in 1981 at Osirak, Iraq. Everybody thinks this will be a replay of that most daring of raids. Nope. It's gonna be different as the Israelis think outside of the box...just wait.
