Northrop Grumman announces larges(t) expansion project in the country

BREVARD -- Brevard County will soon be the home of the largest economic development project in the country, officials said.

The Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast announced on May 8 that Northrop Grumman Corporation has selected Brevard County for an expansion project that could create 1,800 jobs, with an average annual salary of $100,000.

The project was secretly known as "Project Magellan" throughout the due diligence phase, as part of a confidentiality agreement between the company and the Space Coast, officials said.

Northrop Grumman plans to invest approximately $500 million in new capital investments at Melbourne International Airport, according to reports.

"This is a huge victory for families on the Space Coast," said Florida Gov. Rick Scott in a statement to the press. "We are excited that Northrop Grumman has decided to expand here in Florida, which could bring up to 1,800 new jobs to Brevard County. We've worked to grow jobs and opportunities for Florida families by cutting taxes, paying down debt and cutting government waste, and this announcement is a testament to our success in creating an opportunity economy."

Gov. Scott said he expects this deal to attract more businesses to the state of Florida.

Officials said that the expansion will feature two phases: Phase One is the construction of an approximately 220,000-square-foot building, as well as the addition of 300 jobs by the end of 2015; phase two will be the construction of an additional 500,000-square-foot facility and the creation 1,500 more jobs.

"Northrop Grumman's ultimate decision to choose the Space Coast for this competitive project would not have been possible but for the outstanding support of Gov. Scott, Enterprise Florida, Space Florida and the EDC team," said Lynda Weatherman, president and CEO of the EDC. "Our success in bringing this project to Brevard demonstrates just how important economic development incentives are to winning a game changing project, such as this."

Officials said that the project has been in the works for more than year.

The new facility is expected to be operational by 2015.

Currently, the average wage for Brevard County is $44,159.

Anticipated capital investments for this project are expected to be nearly $500 million, with 557 new indirect jobs, in areas that have not yet been determined, expected to be created to support the development of the project.

The total gross domestic product impact is expected to be more that $290 million annually, and the total net new wage impact is expected to be more than $240 million annually, officials said.

The unemployment rate in Brevard County is currently listed at 7 percent, according to public record.

Northrop Grumman is a global security company that provides services to government and commercial customers worldwide.

From what I’ve heard, anyone forty years old and above need not bother to apply. They may be hoping for H1b visa types. Perhaps they are offering job opportunities for Florida Institute of Technology graduates. FIT is the major university in Melbourne and has a large percentage of foreigners in its student body — Indians, Muslims, and Chinese.

This story is clearly bogus. Everyone knows that Gorebull Warming is going to melt the Arctic and the Antarctic ice sheets and that Florida will soon be flooded. That’s why all the wealthy people with insider connections and knowledge are fleeing the sea shore. It’s settled science.

Don’t tell Obama, he’ll look for a way shut it down, saying, it’s not fair that some are getting hired and some are still waiting. Better to keep the majority unemployed, more fair.”

Northrup first moved from NY to Melbourne prior to the first Gulf War with the JSTARS development program, as I recall. I had a neighbor who worked on that program who loaned me VCR tapes of the turkey shoot of Saddam’s tanks by Warthogs and attack helos directed by Boeing 707s equipped with prototype JSTARS ground-attack radar. It was brutal.

When Northrup Grumman shut down its facility in Bethpage NY, it had already moved a great deal of its property to the Melbourne facility. It started the move there in the 1990’s. I was there, as part of the government crew to oversee that project.

Northrup Grumman USED to be the company that owned the Bethpage “iron Works” of WW2 fame. That was the company that built the f-14, the a-6, the ea-6, the e-2c, the c-2a.

This story is an election year fake. The building has been under construction for some time, the project is not as defined, BUT they are getting a 10 year NoTaxes Pass and the EDC is fronting federal loans and grants.

The plan to come here has been years in transfer already and was never a secret. It is just a handover of money with no guarantee of future employment figures that they publish....$ not tied to jobs!

Great Commission and “private” Economic Development Council that works with tax money and employees are part of the retirement plan! But they are private and do not have to answer FOI requests! Current lawsuit over it! Tax dollars sent their Board Members to China for a three week vacation called a fact finding trip!!

We are so lost! The Titusville Mall rebuild is next...MILLIONS more $. Don’t even think about the Port Authority!

Indeed?!?

They can’t be manufacturing much, since Plant 2, Plant 4, and parts of Plant 5, were effectively closed for manufacturing in 1994.

No manufacturing. That's long gone in Bethpage.

It's all software what remains, and two of the remaining three Centers of Excellence are moving to FL.

I imagine, if you manage to go by their Great River plant, near Oakdale, that might still be humming. When I was there, it was the electronics package place to be. There weren’t too many companies building fighter aircraft avionics test benches inside converted 30 foot milvans, to fit within the confines of an aircraft carrier, were there?

All that, not far from my old college, Dowling College, or the greatest fishery for good size German Brown trout, in the nation.

Northrop is the ultimate PC company of defense contractors, openly discriminatory to white heterosexual males. They have “support groups” for every minority and women's groups including LGBT.

Sorry to report that Great River is shut down. It was all consolidated to Bethpage in recent years.

Brevard is a nice place. I have been looking into the area especially the Banana River and Merritt Island.
