Gaslighting
According to Hoyt ^ | May 16, 2014 | Sarah Hoyt

Posted on 05/17/2014 2:06:47 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

When people ask why I came out politically though it will (maybe has already) cost me readers I say “so you know you’re not alone.” And also so that I don’t have to lie to myself, till I think I’m crazy. This might not seem important. But it is. To gaslight an entire society you have to get them to keep silent. You have to convince people that everyone sane believes what you do. Those other people? Oh, those are fringe voices, those are crazy and/or stupid. The good people are all with us.

(And btw, every time I post against the left orthodoxy some idiot calls me “stupid” — Eh.)

I talk so you know you’re not alone.

And I’ve told you before — before the elections “You are being gaslighted” — the elections I maintain were part of it. (Yes, I know, some people get very upset, but forget the suppression of the tea-party, forget how hard they fight against voter ID and for unverifiable modes of voting like “vote by mail,” I was there and I tell you it was impossible for as many people to have early voted and “forgotten” it as supposedly did so. Impossible. And my precinct was low on that compared to others. Never mind “there is no vote fraud” you were gaslighted, you’re being gaslighted.)

Beyond the elections? Our economic numbers. The only way to know what is really going on in our economy is to read foreign newspapers — and discount their bias. The only way to know what is going on in our own country is to read foreign newspapers. Those same newspapers you used to laugh at for being left wing, now sound “right wing” to us — because they’re outside the gaslighting play we’re trapped in.

Have you seen the movie “Gaslight”? If you have, you’ll know exactly what this means. The Obama Administration and the Mainstream Media are doing to us what Claude Rains did to Ingrid Bergman in the movie.

Charles Boyer, not Claude Rains. Good analogy.

I remember the days before Limbaugh, the strange feeling that you lived with when what you saw or sensed didn’t match what you were being told on all sides. I remember how like-minded people would lean in close and talk in a low voice if they didn’t know you, feeling you out to see if you shared the same insane ideas as they.

The advent of Limbaugh was a godsend to a lot of people, to hear someone saying openly what they believed, and saying it fearlessly and with good humor. It isn’t necessary to agree with every last thing Limbaugh says to recognize what a difference he made when he came onto the scene.

Something similar happened with the advent of the internet and FR in particular where it became possible for people to circumvent the noise machine and trade ideas directly, debunk the noise machine when it needed debunking (which is almost every day) and find independent sources of information. I used to haunt the newsstands buying out-of-town newspapers to compare the coverage, and buy out-of-country newspapers for the same reason, it was my habit for years to buy several papers a week digging out the odd fact that explained what the others hid.

And I noticed how, once you knew, you could see how the others would step around the inconvenient fact... meaning they knew.

Now that I have better access to information I see it even more clearly and the sense of disconnect between what I know and what I am told is pervasive, its to the point that I have learned not to believe anything I read in the press without first comparing it to multiple publications... and I can do it so much more easily than before.

The sad thing, though, is that I realize that aside from my FR pals here, almost no one else does. They accept what they hear. They may or may not believe it, they almost never completely believe it, but they accept it because they have no other source. And they don’t want to pay the cost of being counted among the insane.

Love that old movie.

Every time I watch it I keep wishing to see Ingrid Bergman get up in Charles Boyer’s face and yell STFU!!

This blogger must be reading Laz’ posts. I think he just posted or wrote about this (Gaslighting) a few days ago.

A couple of days ago I found out that a guy I work with, who has a PhD and who goes to a Christian church, has never heard the word 'abortifacient' (and I just now found out that the spellchecker at FR has never heard of that word either).

FR is a bubble of fresh air in a poisonous sea.

Thankfully I now realize that I’m being gaslighted.

Does that mean I’m not crazy? :-)

Excellent video.

We have been gaslighted since the spring of 1992, with the advent of Bill Clinton.

Gaslighting, and Cloward-Piven have been the strategies of the day since Jan. 20, 2009.

It needs to be stopped this Election Day.

The Democrat Party is the communist Party of America and needs to be cast into permanent minority status.

I remember talking to Nam vets and finding out a different story then we were told. I was only slightly younger then they and they gave me their views and it differed form the MSM.
I saw the treatment business received from the MSM and how the entertainment and news would combine sources to get a law pasted by demonizing the industry.
I remember telling people not involved in my industry and seeing the disbelief in their faces. It doesn’t happen here, this is America. Now their ox is being gored and the whining is beginning. About time.
I first saw what was in store for America with the switch to the socalled new math. Instead of memorizing our multiplication tables were we given a problem for 6 year olds. 3 + a triangle eguals 9, what is the triangle? It was so simple you could give the answer at a glance. This wasn’t new math this was math for the stupid.
I remember seeing news stories in my early teens and trying to figure out what they were hiding and why. Sometimes I even got the answer right.
Rush was a godsend for a lot of people but not for me. I did not then and never will trust the Feds or any other government, I will not show them any respect because of some lofty position they supposedly earned. I knew by the age of 12 or 13 that government was bought and paid for every day by various people, I saw it happen with my own eyes.
Now thru the perverted peeping toms at the NSA and other agencies everything we write, talk about, or maybe even think is no longer ours. To say I hate these lying SOB’s is an understatement.

Gaslight, that’s one old movie I have seen.

I couldn’t believe Boyer’s character, looking for jewels in the attic and ignoring the real jewels which were in Ingrid’s pants.

Apparently there was a previous version of the film made in 1940, didn’t know that.

Figuratively.

Probably a poor choice of words since it’s male bits that are usually referred to as “jewels”. ;d

But my point, Boyer’s character must have been a Michael Sam or just plain insane.

A poof perhaps? I’ll have Khent look into it.

I saw this titled thread and I thought I might see a lot of potty humor...

But, alas, no...

It had nothing to do with what we used to do after a big pot full of beans for dinner...

Even thought it might be appropriate, considering the topic...

;-)
