Ukraine: Russian media used shots of Ukrainian peacekeeping operation 2 yrs ago in Dobas report ^ | 5-17-2014

Russian media reported false information about the anti-terrorist operation in Donbas, using video recording, which was almost two years old to compromise Ukrainian helicopters in Slovyansk. This information is provided by the regional media centre of the MoD of Ukraine in Chernigiv on Friday, 17th of May. Reports Correspondent.

“Some Russian media (channel “Vesti”) were reporting that helicopters with symbols of the United Nations were taking part in the anti-terrorist operation. In reality, on the video is the Ukrainian peacekeeping operation in Congo, which was two year ago,” – said is the statement.

One of the hero of the report is Chief of Army Aviation Command of the Land Forces, Colonel from Chernigiv, Sergiy Shapovalov. His speech was used by the Russian media in the report.

Shapovalov commented on the report: “This is a complete lie, because first of all this video is two years old, when I came back after the first rotation in Congo. My words about execution of orders by the 18th detachment in that country are accompanied by the video of fighting in Slovyansk. Secondly, after return to Ukraine, the symbols of the UN are removed from the aircraft, which took part in UN missions, I know that for sure. We do not use these symbols in Ukraine.”

This has also been confirmed by the Ukrainian MoD.

“There are no helicopters with symbols of the UN in the Army Aviation Land Armed Forces of Ukraine. Some aircraft, which recently were a part of the Ukrainian contingent of the peacekeeping forces beyond the borders of motherland are pained in white, but they have symbols of Ukrainian Armed Forces on them,” – noted in the press-office.

It was also reported that the Russian Foreign Ministry demanded UN to investigate use of helicopters with the UN symbols in Ukraine.

That’s not the first bogus piece of Russian “news” I’ve seen. It won’t be the last.

A shame a lot of people take these sorts of things uncritically from the Russian media. They need to understand that the Kremlin lies like it breathes. There are so many examples of this that it’s hard to believe that people still fall for them... but, fall they do.

Thank You .There’s a lot of this going on. One poster had a shot of employees which included women being forceably evacuated from a TV station in Dontesk standing in line waiting for the others comming out. Claiming they were storming the place.

I agree with you entirely. I am amazed at how easily FReepers have been suckered by Russian propaganda. It’s embarrassing.
