Remington moving two upstate production lines to Alabama one year after state passed gun control law

ALBANY — A year after the state enacted a tough new gun control law, Remington Arms said Friday it is moving two production lines from upstate to Alabama.

Remington, which dates to 1816, said it will no longer produce its Bushmaster rifle and R1 pistol lines at its Ilion plant, which employs more than 1,000 workers. It’s unclear how many jobs will be lost in the move.

But state Sen. James Seward (R—Milford) said passage of Gov. Cuomo’s SAFE Act last year didn’t help.

“The fact that the lines being moved out are for products now more strictly regulated in New York due to the overreaching SAFE Act sends a strong, obvious message,” Seward said.

A Cuomo spokesman had no immediate comment.

Remington’s announcement in February that it was building a factory in Huntsville, Ala., raised fears in New York that the company would eventually leave.

Here's a comment that explains a lot:

Randy Brown

GOOD. NY doesn't need Remington's blood money.

Andrew Cuomo is too boorish to care and too stupid to understand.

Ruger needs to move its entire operation to Prescott, Arizona. Screw those northeast yankees. They can make 15 bucks an hour flippin burgers.

I would suspect that millions of New Yorkers are glad to see this “evil” company out of their state.

I'm sure that Randy Brown is quite content with The King's Men murdering peasants with "Remington Arms" products...

I wonder what Randy will think when his taxes go up to replace Remington’s taxes.

He probably won’t make the connection.

“I would suspect that millions of New Yorkers are glad to see this “evil” company out of their state.”

You may be somewhat correct, however very very few of those millions live within 200 miles of the factory.

There are two New Yorks.

There is New York State north of Westchester county (Which is the vast majority of the land and is primarily “red”) and there is everything south of and including Westchester which is primarily “blue”. This would include NYC and Long Island. That very small area of the state contains the vast majority of the population, and they are by and large rabidly liberal and are the reason NY is in the toilet.

But the people who live around Remington, which is a few hundred miles from NYC, are NOT supporters of Little Andy Cuomo and it is unlikely many of them voted for the puke.

And they don’t deserve this.

Remington has been under a lot of pressure from gun owners to leave the state. I, for one, have told anyone looking to buy a Remington that the company took an $80 million bribe from the government to stay in NY.

I did the same as you. I let them know personally that my days of buying anything Remington were finished the day they took that bribe. Looks like the free market is starting to hurt so they are starting to transfer one line at a time.

They probably don't deserve it. The thing to remember is that Remington isn't the perpetrator - it's Cuomo and his cronies.

Even in upstate NY there are far too many who still vote Dem because they are blue collar union types who believe Dems are for the little guy and Reps are just mean and greedy.

I’d imagine some if not most or all of those employees of long standing at Ilion, NY have the option of relocating to Hunstville, Alabama, which is a pretty area, pleasant, nice smaller city but cosmopolitan due to the NASA influence going way back. If they’re that disenchanted with Cuomo and downstate politics, here’s their chance if they can sell their houses. Sometimes, no matter how much you like where you are or how long you’ve been there, there comes a time when it’s time to go. Remington itself has been there since the early 1800’s.

Heard on an Albany NY radio today that New York states tax receipts are down $1 BILLION, 17% from last year. Tax collections were up last year because citizens cashed in their savings, being uncomfortable with the economy according to the State Comptroller.

Andy (aka Il Duce) Cuomo is screwing over the state just like his father did before 1992, when IBM almost totally moved out of the state. Andy likes to close down small Italian businesses that use “DAGO” in their name. BTW Andy is the Ugly Cuomo Brother.

I refer to these types as "congenital Democrats," and I'm completely surrounded by them. It's both fascinating and repulsive to observe the phenomenon.

Michigan is much the same. get away from Wayne county (read: Detroit) and the state is largely conservative. But the flaming blue libs in Detroit and suburbs make it look like Michigan is a blue state.
