Despite last fall being marred by a faltering federal website, the Affordable Care Act closed its first official enrollment period with unexpectedly high numbers. As usual, California led the way: the state achieved more than 1.4 million sign-ups on its insurance exchange, nearly 1 in 6 of the nations total. An additional 1.9 million are newly enrolled in Medi-Cal.
California is now set to lead in another way: by closing the gap in coverage left when Congress decided to exclude undocumented immigrants from participating in either the insurance exchanges or the expansion of Medicaid benefits.
The exclusion was largely a matter of politics. The administration and Congress did not want health care to be mixed up with yet another contentious issue, immigration reform. Now, state Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, has proposed a Health for All bill (Senate Bill 1005) that aims to remedy the situation in California by making Medi-Cal available to undocumented residents and by creating an accessible option for private insurance coverage similar to the state exchange.

LA County Welfare, Food Stamp Payouts Total $153M In Early 2014 May 6, 2014 12:02 PM
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) Welfare and food stamp benefits totaling $153 million were issued to illegal immigrant parents for their native-born children during the first quarter of 2014, officials said Tuesday. The total benefits distributed consisted of $56 million in CalWORKs payments and $97 million in CalFresh funds, with spending on on pace to surpass $600 million for the year, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services. Supervisor Michael Antonovich told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO over 20 percent of county public welfare funds were spent on illegal immigrants. With $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million on healthcare in addition to the hundreds of millions spent on education the total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers is nearly $2 billion dollars a year, Antonovich said in a statement. If accurate, the projected pace of $600 million in spending would equal the amount paid out to illegal alien parents in 2010. Antonovichs announcement coincided with the release of a UCLA study that found undocumented immigrants in California visit the doctor and emergency rooms significantly less often than U.S. citizens and documented immigrants. Researchers found one in five U.S.-born adults visits the ER annually, compared with roughly one in 10 undocumented adults approximately half the rate of U.S.-born residents. The study also found that undocumented immigrants average number of doctor visits per year was lower: 2.3 for children and 1.7 for adults, compared with 2.8 doctor visits for U.S.-born children and 3.2 for adults. .And this is just one county..What would the tally be if all the counties had to provide the same data as what La Calif provided. That $2.7 billion annually in sales, income and property taxes..barely covers what La Calif..will pay out in Welfare, Food Stamp Payouts..

It is our eventual undoing. As if we didn’t have enough problems with millions being added to Medicaid, government subsidies with money we don’t have, and increasing healthcare costs across the board.
Now we are supposed to treat the massive influx of third world peons with no education, no ability to pay actual taxes, and a plethora of diseases and conditions heretofore thought extinct in this country. Tuberculosis, flesh-eating disease, and a myriad of other freakish conditions for which our supply of antibiotics won’t work.
We are about to be financially and medically overwhelmed to the point of disaster. That’s what these bleeding hearts and vote-getters want to bestow on us.
I’d say let Calif pay for illegals if it wants to
but I know we will somehow end up helping them.
That is and has always been BS, that illegals are a plus financially.
But no one has the nerve to call it a lie
I wonder how far we’d get if we went over to Mexico and demanded that we be given citizenship, welfare, and the right to vote? Yeah we’re be bouncing back across the border with our skulls cracked...
> We are about to be financially and medically overwhelmed to the point of disaster.
Exactly the reason Obama’s all for it...Cloward - Piven all the way
Illegals prefer their former health insurance plan:
The Emergency Room.
No appointment necessary.
Free treatment and hospitalization without the paperwork.
Free prescriptions.
By the way:
ALL undocumented pregnant women and ALL undocumented children under age 18 are already eligible for Medicaid in ALL states.
The Dems are trying to get more than 50 % of the population to be brownskins so they will never lose an election again or so they think. The moment the Hispanics start voting Republican therewill suddenly be a new focus on securing the borders.
And that will be about when Hell freezes over.
There is a matter of terms here. These folks aren’t immigrants, illegal or otherwise. They are foreign nationals with citizenship in other countries. Immigrants come to this country via federal statutes and laws enforced by the INS.
CC
That is a great idea!
Since liberals keep saying every other country has a better, cheaper health care system than the US, we must send these illegals back to their own country, to receive the health care they deserve. TODAY!!!
They can leave or get the needle.
Include is it 2015 issue drivers licenses ? Auto insurance would be another monthly bill out their budget.Consider healthcare premiums and deductibles for personal health insurance would be another bill out of their budget. Once they realize how much health insurance will really cost them and how much medications will cost them. They will quickly return to the plan you outlined..
How about arresting them, detaining them, seizing all of their assets and deporting them? But then, that would be following some sort of thing called “LAWS”!
With many state budgets in deficit, policymakers have an obligation to look for ways to reduce the fiscal burden of illegal migration. California, facing a budget deficit of $14.4 billion in 2010-2011, is hit with an estimated $21.8 billion in annual expenditures on illegal aliens.
What makes you think under this plan it would be any different?
Just one of the many perequisites of voting illegally for an appreciative Demmunist party.
bkmk
some of the Hispanics I know here in Texas are conservative but hey “ get it”
and they are as angry at the free loading illegals as I am
BUT there aren’t enough
aNd there aren’t enough Anglos smart enough to understand THERE IS NO MONEY
Remember that many children of people on the exchanges are covered by Medi-Cal. A family of 4 with 2 kids making $60,000/yr the children are forced into Medi-Cal. Have fun waiting to get you kid’s ear ache fixed.
