Seven decades after Allied troops stormed Normandys beaches and saved France from the Nazis, the surrender-happy nation is turning its back on hundreds of US veterans who want to return next month to mark the invasions 70th anniversary.
France has broken its promise to pay for the vets to fly to this years commemoration, according to Rep. Michael Grimm.
Our chief-of-staff heard it from the French Embassy in DC that they would be flown out to France [for free], said Nick Iacono, a spokesman for the Staten Island congressman.
But when The Post contacted the embassy Friday, the French turned up their noses as if smelling rotten Camembert.

I'm looking for the articles about our government sending the vets over. I'm sure we're doing that, we did it the first time, and it won't even cut into Michelle's vacations much.
No chance. obama’s scheduled a concussion round table. No joke. It’ll cut into his funding for that.
If you expect the current regime to do anything for our military or vets, you are sadly mistaken.
Screw France. They were not worth Americans dying for. They sure are paying the price now with their lovely muslim invaders.
Were it not for the bravery of these men, there would not be a France today.
Fine, then bring our boys home. I would contribute money for that.
We'll pay for it ourselves.
Anybody know how to start one of those crowd funding things?
This concussion thing is intended to keep people from playing football...there are lots of nervous mothers who won't let their boys play football because of this.
Remember when Obama said he would not let his son play football?
In 1966 upon being told that President Charles DeGaulle had taken France out of NATO and that all U.S. troops must be evacuated off of French soil.
To which Dean Rush asked, “does that include all the US soldiers buried in France from WWI and WWII?”
I read William L. Shirer diary of his time in Nazi Germany. He stated many times that the French did not fight at all. There were a lot of French communists and they, along with unions ordered the soldiers not to fight.
If not for D-Day—it would be part of Greater Germania. Maybe France would be a better place?
How many are left? Screw the French! Why Honor them with the presence of Real Hero’s! A cowardly deed by a cowardly Nation!
Oops, should be Dean Rusk.
They fought us in North Africa.
When you play the role of world policeman, do not expect any rewards, bribes, gratitude, appreciation or even a thank you.
With National debt soon to climb over $20 TRILLION mark, USA needs to stop all foreign military adventures. Or else, follow the Roman empire, Third Reich, Alexander the Great, and all other leading power houses who met their demise with foreign military adventures.
They going surrender to Islam okay works for me LOL!
Well we are talking about France what they famous for
Islam in France: THAT was the price of colonialism.
and then congratulated the queer for being selected by the Rams?
Yea, I ummember.
Uh actually, there would probably not be an America either if it hadn’t been for some of our allies, one of them being the French, who helped us enormously during our Revolution! They weren’t the only reason we won our independence, of course, but one of them; along with some Polish fellows and some Germans, and a few American Indian leaders! So we did owe them something. That said, I believe we paid them back quite a bit!
I think you forgot the sarcasm tag?
It would not surprise me if their passports were confiscated...
You know most were white christian patriots...commonly known nowadays as domestic terrorists...
Psssst! Hey Putin! Over here.
I have mixed feelings on this one. The French probably have a moral obligation. On the other hand it is 70 years later and a paid for trip would be a vacation for the men. We are not French nationals. We voluntarily entered the war for our own reasons not because of France. Americans seek a lot of “freebies.”
Don’t worry, I’m sure that genius John Kerry will smooth things over. LOL.
Remember, when you go to the store, no French cheeses, no French wines, no French perfumes, no French naughty postcards.......
I’m not sure they have a moral obligation. But if the article is correct, the underlying source is the NY Post, they offered to pay the expenses, then backed out.
Unfortunately, given Obama as President, this might apply to Obama States.
As I said I have mixed feelings. If there was a firm contract to pay and then France backed out. That would sway me in favor of France paying.
That should say: The French turned up their noses as if smelling the stench of their very own BO.
Back to freedom fries!
There are Naughty post cards?
Are there even post cards?
If there are, they sure don’t cost a penny.
Any way, if these vets want to go, then WE should send
them, not what calls itself our “government”.
I would donate to such a cause if someone were assembling
such a tour.
When we do this of necessity the world will be a darker place.
the person behind the counter replied that no one enters France without a passport.
The veteran said last time he was in France he didn't have a passport.
Very arrogantly the person asked and just when was that.
The veteran quietly replied June 6, 1944.
More and more I agree with you. They say isolation doesn’t work - but hasn’t it worked for other countries?
But this does put us into a hashtag diplomacy doesn’t it - we will complain about what is going on but not do anything just like most of the rest of the world. Then what happens when somebody has to face off Iran? China? Russia?
And, how much of what we do is based on what global business wants...the same global business that wants amnesty? Who REALLY provides more than lip service for the defense of the American middle class?
One thing for sure, our current course is the course to bankruptcy. Probably exactly what Al Queda was shooting for in the first place.
I just can’t beat up on the french, there were brave
frenchmen in both wars and in the First world war they
suffered horrendous casualties. Had the US suffered the
same numbers as Verdun we would have been torn apart too
the second time.
An appreciative nation steps up and shows its class, or lack thereof.
What is one to expect from a bunch of cheese-eaters who pour 55-gallon drums of perfume into their subways because the people over there rarely bathe?
The offer to fly the U.S. vets to France was made, and then withdrawn. That’s a present day decision made by an official in the current French government.
We have the right to know who in France made that decision, and does the office of the French president approve. Our embassy should be demanding to know, right now.
It is a slightly more complete article, however Fox News, like all other MSM, gets everything backwards and couldn’t give a crap. The (29th Division)116th landed at H-Hour on D-Day. The 115th followed later. To the young Fox writer it’s all meaningless anyway....115th, 116th...what’s the difference? Of course it was actually a BIG difference. But “details” mean nothing to today’s MSM......just another depressing “sign of our times”.
next war, we’ll stand back, and let the Germans deal with the French, and their Muslim imports, by themselves.
Said about the French Army, it’s hard to engage the advancing enemy where you are running in the same direction.
I'm sure he could persuade Reggie to tag along even if Moochelle decides she would rather do something else. Or maybe she could turn it into another $10 million dollar vacation for herself and 500 or so of her closest friends and relatives and really make us proud!
The French may have a point. Would their country now be transitioning to Islam had they lost WW2? I think not.
The French didn’t help much at all during our revolution. It was mainly the Germans and Poles that actually did the work. You don’t think those weasely French were good for anything even back then, do you? Ok, Lafayette, but he’s the only good one.
I was their for the 50th anniversary, and I have to tell you that it was the biggest pro-American display of love and friendship I have ever seen outside the US.
Having been there over 50 times, most of the people appreciate us, and most of their youth would love to live here.
Their pro-family marches draw larger crowds than we do, which puts our couch potatoes to shame.
They have a lot wrong, as we do. This ain’t the country our greatest generation fought for, I will tell you that.
“Does Obammy plan to not show up like all the other times? Or does he have an important golf date that weekend that will prevent him from going again? After all, Dude, that was seventy years ago!”
We as a nation will be better off if Obama and Kerry stay home and the veterans who do make the trip represent this nation. Neither Obama nor Kerry care about American exceptionalism, the historical accomplishments of the American people, or veterans. They are narcissistic political leeches who are only concerned about themselves and their socialist agenda. Be happy if they stay at home. If they go the media will fawn over them instead of the people who fought and died there.
