Libyan parliament comes under gunfire in Tripoli

There has been heavy fighting outside the Libyan interim parliament in the capital Tripoli.

MPs fled the building after heavily armed attackers tried to storm it. Some eyewitnesses say the gunmen were from the powerful Zintan Brigade of former rebel fighters.

However, a paramilitary force backing retired general Khalifa Haftar claimed it was behind the assault.

Authorities are struggling to contain militias that control parts of Libya.

A planned new constitution remains unwritten and the country has had three prime ministers since March.

On Sunday, the gunmen launched their assault on parliament in armoured vehicles. Black smoke rose above the building as militiamen loyal to the government responded.

Their citizens are so much worse off since Obama led us to overthrow their government. The people are much worse off.

Something about Bengazi is still gnawing away at me:

The roof SEALs had been using a target designator, right? Doing that boosts risk against the operator —if properly equipped the enemy can see the beam. SEALs know that, so they had to at least to have been led to BELIEVE there was fire-support available or inbound —it’s very dubious they’d wave that thing around for fun in a firefight...

If GayMuzzie’s guys had SOME REASON to want the Bengazi resistance to suddenly stop, then it would be logical for top leadership do what they could to induce the SEALs to disclose their positions —to radio, “OK the zoomies are inbound so paint your targets for them...”

Then the originally planned path for abducting Stevens for subsequent swap would finally be CLEARED (by the muzzie mortar team).

THIS IS JUST A THEORY TO CONSIDER.

Maybe there was *more* than just an election-centric rescue failure.

This isn’t the first time the Libyan Parliament’s been stormed. More like the fifth time now. The other ministries got stormed repeatedly too by the myriad militias.

The Prime Minister got kidnapped, their ‘Speaker of the House’ got kidnapped, their interim Prime Minister got shot at and his son kidnapped, resigning afterwards.

The weakness of the government is such that the kidnap of the Prime Minister was ordered by his Congress members, who bragged about it afterwards without punishment.

The only reason that government is still standing is because no one group is powerful enough to control Libya now, and they need a Western approved government to distribute the oil-backed checks to everyone and negotiate truces.

Some warlord called Jathran tried to take the oil as well, but SEALs stopped him at the last second.

General Sisi is exterminating the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and now General Haftar is going after the islamists in Libya. Sounds to me like the Arab Spring is working out just fine.
