Rarely are Reps. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and John A. Boehner of Ohio publicly on the same side of a GOP primary campaign. But a band of geographically and ideologically diverse Republicans are rallying behind Texas Rep. Ralph M. Hall, who is in danger of becoming the first incumbent defeated in 2014 later this month.

He pledged to retire next time. http://atr.rollcall.com/ralph-hall-pledges-to-retire-after-next-term/
Isn’t it somewhat ‘funny’ that Congress can and will generate or pass laws for mandatory retirement us for us ‘underlings’?
We ought to start demanding they inform us WHY people should retire at a certain age.
If these clowns can continue drawing a paycheck and get wheeled into hearings every now and then to ‘vote’ just because ‘Jim would love to be a sitting Senator @ 100’, how can they possibly tell us (we know how but...) we are too old?
I guess ‘we’ could argue that because these people really do ‘nothing’ that it doesn’t matter how old or senile they are.

Tea Party Express Endorses John Ratcliffe for Congress
Sacramento, CA Tea Party Express, the nations largest Tea Party political action committee, is proudly endorsing John Ratcliffe for Congress in Texas 4th Congressional District. Tea Party Express Executive Director Taylor Budowich said, While we thank and honor Congressman Ralph Halls service, Texas 4th Congressional District is ready for some fresh, conservative ideas and

A poll of Republican voters has Hall ahead
Propriety alone dictates the incumbant bow gracefully and allow new blood to run. Good Grief how much federal money does he need at his age. He could live quite well on SS much less his congressional salary. Maybe he believes that as soon as he resigns or doesn’t run for office he’s doomed.
Hall is a fossil ... he needs to retire.
His opponent is a conservative who would do a much better job than ancient politician.. Hall is a Democrat who turned Republican as recently as 2004, because he realized that he could no longer win as a Democrat in the 4th Congressional District of Texas.
Since in his dotage, he doesn’t know when to get off the stage, he needs to be voted out on May 27. For Bachman and others to support him, is a slap in the face to Texas conservatives who deserve a conservative replacement who could get on the seniority ladder by winning this term, rather than waiting for 2016.
91 years old! Give us a break already! He should go to his rocking chair and sit on the porch.
Bachmann may have a personal liking for Mr. Hall, as do the Bushes. But she is leaving, yet trying to keep him around. Doesn’t make a lot of sense; sadly, her 2012 presidential campaign didn’t compute either. I would think Hall will win a narrow outcome.
Don’t forget the $174,000 death benefit to his family.
He said the same thing last time out..then he reneged..
Sure, he will.
“We, the People” want term limits. The politicians do not.
We were talking about this on another thread.
I don’t see any imperative to remove him, especially if the best reason is “he’s old so he might die”. Maybe I imagined this but I seem to remember something about some candidate that ran against one of the really old members of Congress making age an issue, losing, and then dying shortly after the election while the old guy lived on.
Anyway, he ain’t a RINO. The last time beating Ralph Hall was something that should have been on anyone’s to do list was in 2002, his last election as a democrat.
I seriously doubt he’s not sincere in saying he doesn’t plan to run again in 2016. I’d rather see an open field in 2016 rather than just handing it off to this Ratcliffe guy. Shrug.
Tea Party Express has been outed as the Establishment tool that it is: run by long-time CA GOP operative Sal Russo who has become a crusader for massive amnesty.
A much better poster boy for “this ***hole has been there too long so let’s get rid of him just because” is RINO Don Young of Alaska.
He’s 80 and he’s been in Congress longer than Hall, more to the point, he’s a RINO douchebag who even endorsed democrat Mazie Hirono of Hawaii for the Senate when she was facing a semi-competitive general election challenge from Linda Lingle. Pity no of one of consequence is targeting him for defeat. Paging Tea Party Express, there’s a sofa on the tracks.
The story of which you’re thinking relates to the 1984 U.S. Senate election in SC. Strom Thurmond was 81 years old, and his Democrat opponent, Melvin Purvis (son of the famous FBI agent of the same name), who was in his 40s, made a big deal about Thurmond’s age and how “South Carolina deserves a Senator who would be healthy for all six years of the term.” Well, Thurmond squashed Purvis in the general, and within two years Purvis was dead of a heart attack, while Thurmond continued serving in the Senate until past his 100th birthday.

I thought it was Thurmond, but I only checked ‘96 and ‘90.
How HE should have definitely retired sooner, his COS was practically the real Senator, for at least the final term.
