Posted on 05/19/2014 5:37:45 AM PDT by cotton1706
The coalition which controls the levers of power within the Republican Party of Virginia lost a major battle in the 5th Congressional District today. The pro-convention forces, which constitute a majority within party leadership and are defined by their support of a narrow, exclusive nominating process, supported Mark Lloyd for district chairman. Instead, Jon Berkley prevailed.
Lloyd is a former Tea Party leader who was backed by a number of big name pro-convention players, including State Senator Tom Garrett. The anti-establishment candidate Berkley was backed by Congressman Robert Hurt.
Berkley ended up dominating the vote, winning by a comfortable double digit margin.
In a move that should highlight party unity, but will instead be demagogued by pro-convention forces, the 5th District Committee decided not to seat the properly slated Campbell County delegation. It would have been easy for the slated votes to be allowed in, but instead they decided to sideline the entire county. Its a reasonable compromise, so you can expect it to be called a travesty.
Finally, in the one actually controversial decision of the day, Jamie Radtke is reporting that the districts State Central Committee members will not be allowed to vote on the District Committee during this term. They retain their votes on the statewide governing body. This is entirely within the powers of the district, and the votes were obviously there for this change to go through. The pro-convention establishment will likely demagogue that as well.

This article makes no sense.
I didn’t quite get it either. But I take it who the Establishment wanted lost and the other guy won.
Justin Higgins is a 23-year old political operative and activist based out of Christiansburg, Virginia. Originally from Ohio, Justin has been active in the blogosphere since 2005
So a guy who's 23, has been blogging since he is 14, has no experience in the real world that we can tell
.is writing analysis? Sheesh.
It was certainly written with a point-of-view...but I'm not sure what it is...
actually, looks like the Tea Party was painted AS the estabs by this wizard of facial acne.
I saw the headline in my morning search, thought it was interesting and posted it.
I get it, and you do post a lot, and let me hasten to add that I appreciate it and read a lot of your posts maybe a little vetting of the author is a good thing ..
I feel dumber for having read this flapdoodle.
I agree, I’ve read it twice now and still don’t know what it says
Yeah, I never know who these people are. I don’t live in Virginia. I assume they’re local reporters.
could not follow it
This person *may* be one of Eric Cantor’s young guns. I have no data to support this contention - just a WAG on my part.
Writing as if the Tea Party is the establishment shows either colossal ignorance or it is a tactic to undermine the Tea Party. Given the amount of slating and other tactics by Eric Cantor’s minions, I personally am tending towards the undermining scenario.
The reality is Robert Hurt and other establishment GOP (the real establishment GOP, not the ‘Tea Party establishment GOP’), slated and pulled other dirty tricks to get their way in the 5th district. Hey VAGOP, if you want to expand the ranks and be more inclusive, this isn’t how you do it! Just sayin’.
I thought I was the only one!
Looks like someone took an article written in English, sent it through Google translate to Mandarine to German and back to English.
So apparently, the slimy GOPe is not only pushing to “crush” the TEA Party, as per Mitch McConnell, but this little snot-nosed clone of Cantor is trying to pass off the GOPe as “anti-establishment” in this opaque commentary.
If Baghdad Bob would have had a son ..
Looks to me like someone the author is posting as if in mid-conversation - that is, the audience is assumed to have been following the story/stories referenced and don’t need any reminders of the general “plot line” going on, who the players are, and what certain things might mean.
My thoughts exactly .
“This article makes no sense.”
LOL. It not only makes no sense, it aspires to make less sense on subsequent reads than it does on first read. I wonder if there is a descriptive word for that attribute. Abblitherative?
This article makes no sense.
Thank you! I’m reading it and saying to myself: “What the hell are they talking about?” I guess you have to live in VA to ascertain what the Article is saying; or, the writer of the Article needs to lay down the crack pipe.
I am a Republican County Chairman in Virginia.
This article is an absolute fraud!
The Liberals, lead by RINO Congressman Robert Hurt, took over control of the 5th District Committee. They won by trickery and manipulation.
This article is clearly an attempt to misinform people.
The 5th District Convention was the latest in a series of battles for the soul of the Republican Party in Virginia. Regretfully, the RINO’s won this event.
