Senate Assistant Majority Leader Richard J. Durbin vowed Monday to keep fighting to give green cards to some illegal immigrants who serve in the U.S. military, according to a report.
If you are willing to sign up in our military and risk your life for America, you should be given that opportunity, Mr. Durbin, Illinois Democrat, proclaimed at a Senate Appropriation Committee field hearing in Chicago.
Senate Democrats are debating whether to add the measure, known as the ENLIST Act, to the annual defense authorization act.
The ENLIST Act would enable young illegal immigrants who entered the United States before age 15, a group known as Dreamers, to join the U.S. military...

Were turning down twice as many as before, said Hoard, who supervises the Army recruiting station in Grandview.
His office several years back needed to sign up 16 to 20 soldiers per month to meet recruiting targets. Now, 10 or 12 will do.
Only for use in War time. Then see if they still want to enlist!
The Rats are already planning their one-up-menship for when the GOPe passes amnesty. Do you think they GOP will finally take a stand when the Rats propose a bill legalizing the rape of white women?
So what would these dreamers answer on their application,”have you ever committed a felony?”
DC (both political parties) would not get away with the global war-mongering if US citizens were the ones doing the fighting, using a draft if necessary.
Prison is where he should. I heard he’s going to retire, this ENLIST Act must be his final way of screwing the country.
That would be deemed racist to ask that!
should = should be.
Not while citizens cannot get in due to extremely high standards.
Why do we need illegal aliens in the military when they are eliminating billets for US citizens?
Actually - America needs an “American Foreign Legion”
You can join that as an illegal.
A hard life with the worst of the deployments.
If you are killed - you are buried. No other benefits.
One disciplinary action - you are deported.
If you serve with distinction for 10 years - you get your citizenship.
Does the US Military really need Mercenaries ?
Absolutely not in my view. They’ll only cause more problems than they currently have which are many.
The funder's featured event is Obama presenting Sen Dick with the coveted "Obama Rubber Stamp Award"..... b/c Durbin das demonstrated lock-stepping party loyalty not seen since 1930-40's-era Europe.
BACKSTORY As far back as 2008, at the presidential debate in Nashville, Democrat candidate Obama advanced his signature healthcare plan---ultimately enacted, by an historic straight Democrat party-line vote, into the "Affordable Care Act"
QUOTING 2008 OBAMA: "No. 1, let me just repeat, if youve got a health care plan that you like, you can keep it. All Im going to do is help you to lower the premiums on it. Youll still have choice of doctor.
Repeated over and over ---- with the promise that every American family would be saving $2500.00 on healthcare costs. Significantly, Obamba NEVER corrected lock-stepping Democrats, all reading from the same Democrat talking points, all of them repeating the same Democrat promises---over and over again.
LOCK-STEPPING PARTY LOYALTY NOT SEEN SINCE 1930 40's ERA EUROPE Obama And The Dems marched in lockstep. The persistent Dumbocrat drumbeat ---- in obeisance to Obama ---- kept ringing reassuringly in our ears: "If you like your plan, you can keep your plan." ==========================================================
QUOTING SEN. RICHARD DURBIN: We believe and we stand by this if you like your current health insurance plan, you will be able to keep it, plain and simple, straightforward. (Sen. Durbin, Congressional Record, S.6401, 6/10/09)
MEMO TO DURBIN VOTERS Lock-stepping Durbin embedded all of this into US law:
(1) throwing millions of Americans off affordable health plans,
(2) burdening Americans w/ ruinous deductibles,
(3) nationalizing 1/6 of the US economy,
(4) installing IPAB's (Death Panels),
(5) abandoning seniors and the chronically ill,
(6) pulling $750 out of Medicare,
(7) decimating intergenerational transfers of wealth (grandma/pa's holdings go to the govt---not to you).
SIGNING "THE BIG EFFIN' DEAL" (now known as "The Big Effin' Debacle")
"Those Democrats leering over my shoulder owe me bigtime.
The healthcare bill insures we get a permanent Democratic majority."
" All except those Tea Party types, swallowed hook, line and sinker my promises that they could:
(1) keep their existing health plans,
(2) keep their own doctors that they like,
(3) keep their 25-year-olds on the family health plan,
(4) never be denied coverage for a pre-existing condition,
(5) sign up instantly on my tech-savvy government Web site,
(6) buy insurance only after becoming seriously ill."
(7) save $2,500 in annual premiums in the bargain....
(8) All without any new taxes."
"Them sonovagun Tea Partiers will rue the day they criticized my wonderful bill."
Uh someone tell this dunce Durbin that this scheme didnt work so well for Ancient Rome either.
Such illegal entry is a misdemeanor, and, if repeated after being deported, becomes punishable as a felony
Didn’t read the story at the link, but a few days ago saw an article that said 80% of applicants are currently rejected.
Yep, I saw it also and think that’s probably about right.
Article has been updated, much more info. Durbin doesn’t sound happy with the criticisms. lol
“The Enlist Act is unnecessary for national security, makes a mockery of U.S. immigration law, and is a slap in the face to those who want to come here and play by the rules, said James Jay Carafano, vice president for foreign and defense policy studies at The Heritage Foundation.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Virginia Republican, signaled late last week that he would oppose the effort. A Cantor spokesman said it was wrong to mix immigration into the defense debate but the legislation could come up as a stand-alone measure later this year.”
