India: The Church does not lose hope, even in light of right wing triumph [BJP Extremist Party]

The majority party and its leader Narenda Modi have ridden the wave of religious fanaticism. Minorities are appealing to the legacy of democracy and pluralism

India is officially in the hands of the Hindu right wing. The Catholic Church and other religious minorities are concerned but they are grinning and bearing it, grasping onto the old and deep-rooted legacy of democratic values and pluralism that characterizes the Indian nation. Their concerns stem from the contiguity of India’s leaders with groups of Hindu fanatics. This is the landscape that has been emerging in the Indian sub-continent since the official general election results came out.

[...]

So Modi seems to be holding out the olive branch to the opposition party, in order to reassure Muslim and Christian minorities (who make up 13.5% and 4.5% of the population respectively): In a nation that is 75% Hindu, BJP and Narendra Moni’s victory does not promise anything good for these minorities. The pedigree of this nationalist leader and his party is in fact rather controversial. The power held by the BJP, a party which appeared on the political scene in 1980, has been fuelled by a nationalist ideology referred to as hindutva. Hindutva promotes “one people, one language, one culture”, endorsing cast discrimination and discrimination against religious minorities which should be subdued or wiped out in the name of Hindu supremacy. The party, which came to power for the first time in 1998, showed its approval for extremist movements such as Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (the National Volunteers Organisation) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (world council of Hindus), and did not hesitate to take advantage of the religious factor to win votes.

Too long to post the whole thing.

Don't confuse "right wing" with "good".

MODI the Hindu Supremacist wins the election.

Gandhi's Congress party out.

If you live in India, best to be a Hindu from now on.

The lesson to be learned from this is that after many decades of milktoast policy and oligarchy there will be a massive swing of the pendulum...

Because so many Christians are murdered by Hindus when Hinduism teaches them to murder Christians.

Same propaganda when an authentic Christian wins an election.

Modi is pro-business, anti gay normalization and favors a muscular stand against Pakistani terrorism and incursion into India.

The official platform of BJP is it wants an alliance with the USA.

Congress wants Switzerland’s foreign policy in Asia. Officially neutral when Commies and Muslims are on the march.

From your citation:

"From 1964 to 1996, at least 38 incidents of violence against Christians were reported. In 1997, 24 such incidents were reported. Since 1998, Christians in India have faced a wave of violence.[4] In 1998 alone, 90 incidents were reported.[2]"

I think that's a good (non-Friday) afternoon in Islam.

I will bet the Christian minority has little to fear from the government. Radical Islam, on the other hand, will begin squealing at the top of their lungs about how they are being discriminated against. Really, what else is new.

All these moderate claims to were to win votes and be presentable on the world stage like anywhere.

Watch what he does, not what he says.

BJP and is always has been fanatic.

Check into Modi's associations with known terrorists -- much like our own pissident.

My wife's sister (Catholic) is routinely harassed/persecuted by local Hindus.

They will feel enabled now just like Holder's people feel enabled. Watch and see.

The sister's family has to conceal their Christian identity most all the time.

Proportion, perspective, and shining the bright light where it belongs.

Mohammed was a Child Rapist and Islam is a Totalitarian Death Cult.

Hinduism is pretty benign in comparison.

Hinduism overall is almost completely benign.

The fanatic factions are no different from fanatics anywhere.

This election is enabling and encouraging those factions.

This is a category msitake. As Steve86 explained, it’s not referring to economic-political “right wing.” It’s referring to religious right-wing, which in India means Hindu Nationalists who want non-Hindus to be deprived of any public role -— or leave.

An unfortunate matter is the common inability of Hindus to distinguish among Christian sects. I was at a prayer rally on the mall where one Christian leader with many mission groups in India was praising God about a prominent Hindu temple being destroyed by a national disaster. This sort of attitude breeds hatred against Christians.

The BJP claims to support equality for the dalits; if so, this is good, because another one of the major sources of anti-Christian hatred against Catholics is the false allegation that Christians provide charity on the condition of conversion. This is based on hatred of charity towards the dalits.
